Emilio Jimenez Gomez, Prisoner from San Sebastian Bachajon, Released

Logo @: VivaBachajon WordPress

On March 16, Emilio Jimenez Gomez, an ejidatario from San Sebastian Bachajon and adherent to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle (the Sixth), was released from prison. He was imprisoned in Playas de Catazaja, Chiapas (CERSS # 17) for two years and eight months.

According to the “No Estamos Todxs” working group, “he was identified by PRI members from the Xanil community for an assault on a foreigner but the same foreigner said that the compañero was not the person who assaulted him. The PRI took him prisoner to Playas de Catazaja with the complicity of the preventative state police.” Likewise, the adherents to the Sixth of San Sebastian Bachajon, in their last statement, assured that Emilio Jimenez Gomez had been arrested for fight against dispossession in the Agua Azul Waterfalls.

In the same statement, they recalled that two other ejidatarios were still “kidnapped by the state”, Esteban Gomez Jimenez, prisoner in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, (CERSS # 5) and Santiago Moreno Perez, prisoner in Playas de Catazaja, Chiapas (CERSS # 17). They denounced that they were also arrested “in an arbitrary manner, for defending their natural resources…for raising their voices and defending life and territory.”

Pronouncement for our compañero Santiago Moreno Pérez (San Sebastián Bachajón)

Santiago1/3/2017

To the Adherents of the Sexta Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón

To the Zapatista Army of National Liberation

To the Councils of Good Government

To the National Indigenous Congress (CNI)

To the Sexta

To the Freed, Alternative and Autonomous Media

To the women and men who struggle from below and to the left

From the Working Group “No Estamos Todxs” (We’re Not All Here) we raise our voice in support of our compañero in the struggle, Santiago Moreno Perez, a Tzeltal indigenous man, 55 years old, imprisoned in Prison 17 Playas de Catazajá. He is originally from the community La Pimienta, in the municipality of Chilón. He is a member of the San Sebastián Bachajó ejido organization, adherent to the EZLN’s Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle. He has been held against his will behind prison walls for more than 8 years by the corrupt and rotten Mexican justice system.

Detained since February 2009, the compañero Santiago held the role within the organization of advisor for autonomous security and he had been part of the struggle for more than 10 years, resisting in defence of Mother Earth and the ejido territory from the mega-projects the bad government want to impose on the region. On the night of the events, Santiago along with his son Sebastián, were singled out and accused by a group of PRI (Partido Revolucionario Institucional, Institutional Revolutionary Party) supporters as the ones responsible for the death of a person from La Pimienta community. The PRI supporters got together to lynch Santiago, but the group decided that instead of killing him, they took him to jail and stripped him of all his possessions.

The last months have been especially hard for our compañero Santiago. Last December, we received with sadness the news about the death of his wife. This was already a difficult situation for our compañero who is held prisoner. He could not say good bye to her, or embrace his family during this difficult moments, all of this heaped onto the grief that is part of saying good bye to a loved one. We also share concern about the situation of compulsory orphanhood that the prison system imposes on imprisoned people’s children. They take them away in a totally unjust and arbitrary manner, and they also have pending arrest warrants for the same offense that condemned their father to prison.

We know that prison not only punishes those behind the bars. Punishment also extends to the families, friends and the men and women compas of the organisation. For this reason, Santiago requested to be moved to the prison in Ocosingo so that his wife could visit him without such high travel expenses, a transfer which was approved but never made by the penitentiary institution. In this context the last conversation took place between them.

On the other hand, imprisonment, along with the personal and family situation, is having impact on the physical and psychological health of our compañero Santiago. Medical attention and access to health care and emotional support is denied to those behind prison walls. Even so and in spite of these obstacles and this control, we are accompanying and supporting Santiago in through all this.

The judicial process of our compañero Santiago is full of irregularities.

Ever since the pronouncement of his sentence and its appeal in 2009, the judge of First Trial Court of the Criminal Branch of the Judicial District of Catazajá has ruled for formal prison sentences. For each decision against the freedom of our compañero, a corresponding injunction demanding a resumption of the trial with guarantees was also accepted.

One of the most serious irregularities and crimes against Santiago occurs at the beginning of the legal process when Santiago was granted a translator who has family ties to the complainants, the same ones who identify Santiago as the perpetrator of the crime. The Chiapas prisons are full of poor, indigenous people who do not speak Spanish, nor do they have any money to hire a trustworthy lawyer; they do not have access to due process and are forced through torture and deceit to sign self-incriminating statements. Santiago’s case is one more of those, with the aggravating fact that he is locked up clearly owing to political motivations.

This March 3, 2017, at 10 am in the Court of Playas de Catazajá is set to hear the report which will determine how the questioning into the wrongdoing of having Melchorio Perez Gomez as translator for compañero Santiago Moreno Pérez proceeds.

For this reason we are sending this call out to for all of us, in our trenches, to be on the ready to support and back-up our compañero Santiago Moreno Pérez, unjustly imprisoned in Prison 17 Playas de Catazajá, all for defending a dignified life in rebellion, for the autonomy of his people and for resisting and fighting for a future for everyone.

Repression, death, punishment and the walls of the enclosure, once again, serve as tools to breakdown the social fabric of people who refuse to hand over their land, and with it their way of life, to an elite tourist project intended for the enjoyment of a few.

We won’t be fooled, and we are not fooling you. Our compañero’s crime was, and is, to defend life from those who snatch it to build trains, luxury hotels and golf courses on land which is our source of life, the source of our food, and the origins of our people. Three other compañeros from Bajachón (Santiago Moreno Pérez, Emilio Jimenez Gómez and Esteban Gómez Jimenez) are also imprisoned for this crime, and two other compañeros (Juan Vázquez Guzmán and Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano) have been murdered.

Along with him, along with them, and along with many others, we share the dignified rage that surrounds us all, the same struggle, the commitment that unites us as compañeros; the injustice we face, the repudiation of the penitentiary institution as a form of Control, racial segregation, coercion, atomization, destruction of social fabric, families and death.

Compañero Santiago Moreno Pérez is not alone, we carry on here, together with him

Our compañeros from Bachajón held prisoner are not alone, we carry on here, together with them

Down with all the walls of all the prisons

Bachajón Ejido closes Palenque-Ocosingo road and demands freedom for political prisoners

Published by Pozol Collective, 6th of March 2017, Chiapas.

Jmololabex ants winiketik icha spatil a wotanik ta pisilik machatik nokol skoltabel te lum kinalik te yuun ta skuenta te nokol spojbel te chopol ajwalil.

Compañeros and compañeras, this communication comes from the adherents to the Sixth Declaration from the ejido of San Sebastián Bachajón, Chiapas, with greetings of struggle for your organisations and peoples in resistance.

In this communique, we raise our voice to demand justice and the immediate freedom of our three compañeros imprisoned in different detention centres.

Today the compañeros who are adherents to the Sixth, of the Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, find ourselves in Nahilte, on the road between Palenque-Ocosingo, holding a road block. We are from the three centres that make up the Ejido, and we are determined to carry out this peaceful direct action, to demand the freedom of our unjustly imprisoned compañeros with immediate effect; prisoners of conscience Esteban Gómez Jiménez, imprisoned in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, (CERSS #5), and Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, imprisoned in Playas de Catazaja, Chiapas (CERSS #17). They were arbitrarily detained, their crimes were fabricated and they were imprisoned following false accusations for crimes they never committed, simply because they were committed to fight for and defend Mother Earth. This was their crime, speaking up and defending natural resources, territory and life.

We also denounce the actions of official ejidal commissioner Manuel Guzmán Alvaro to promote, together with the Agrarian Commission the advancement of PROCEDE and FANAR, to parcel off our land with the aim of privatising it and stripping our people of it, in the interest of Big Business (megaproyectos). We reject the ejidal commissioner’s work for the Bad Government and beseech the people of San Sebastián Bachajon not to be taken in by the lies of the commissiones and the Bad Government. We do not need PROCEDE or FANAR, because as peoples, we have learned how to defend our land and see autonomy as the solution to all problems within the community.

From the northern part of Chiapas, men and women of San Sebastián Bachajón send greetings of struggle to all the compañeros and compañeras, communities and peoples, of Mexico and the world, who fight and resist bad governance.

Never again a Mexico without us
Land and freedom

Long live Zapata!
Ever onward to victory!
Freedom for political prisoners!
Juan Vázquez Guzmán lives, Bachajón struggles on!
Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano lives, Bachajón struggles on!
No to the eviction of indigenous lands!
State police out of our indigenous territory!
Immediate presentation of the compañeros disappeared and assassinated in the normal school Raúl Isidro Burgos in Ayotzinapa!
¡JUSTICE FOR OUR COMPAÑERO JUAN VAZQUEZ GUZMAN, AYOTZINAPA, ACTEAL, ABC, ATENCO!

Compañeros and compañeras, the Adherents of the Sixth Declaration from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón send you, your organisations and your communities in resistance combative greetings.

In this month of February 2017, we remember that 6 years have gone by since the operation ordered by Juan Sabines Guerrero and Noé Castañón León to evict and dispossess us of our territory was carried out by more than 800 agents from different state and federal police forces.

This violent, abusive and invasive police operation into our indigenous territory was with the clear objective of definitively appropriating our land for their economic gain. Among other consequences were the persecution of Sixth Bachajón comrades, the arbitrary arrest and unjust imprisonment of more than 100 of our comrades, who were separated from their families and deprived of their freedom. All on the whim of the bad government because we did not obey its order to release control of the collection booth and access to the Agua Azul Waterfalls, which we had built on our ejido lands. This access point is strategically located. The Bad Government seeks control of the booth to serve interests completely indifferent to the social benefits and the collective indigenous community of the ejido.

This mega police operation was being schemed and prepared since the end of 2010 in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas by Noé Castañón León and the San Sebastián Bachajón PRIist ejido commissioner Francisco Guzmán Jiménez also known as ‘el Goyito’. ‘El Goyito’ is also the same person who threatened to kill our compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán before his actual murder on 24 April 2013. For approximately a year before this operation was carried out, our organisation had maintained a land defense camp on the road that leads up to the Agua Azul Waterfall. This was done through collective training, organisation and work, we also charged tourists for the entry to our lands on the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, and this was for the general benefit of all the ejido and not just our organisation.

The operation took place then because the Bad Government took advantage of the moment  to repress, persecute and violate the human rights of our people. This was when Tatik Samuel Ruiz passed on to a better life and the director of the Human Rights Center Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Diego Cadenas Gordillo went to work with the Bad Government alongside Juan Sabines Guerrero in the State Human Rights Council just a few days after the death of Tatik Samuel. This is what the former director of Frayba Marina Patricia Jiménez Ramírez also did, and she earns approximately 100 thousand pesos per month. The death of Tatik Samuel created conditions which allowed the Bad Government to intensify attacks on indigenous communities living in resistance in Chiapas, including the defense of the land of San Sebastian Bachajón and all of this contributed to the chain of events that have so far occurred.

Our organization continues to stand up and defend our territory. We are more aware of our rights as an indigenous people, we seek to build an autonomy as an organization and as human beings. We support all people who live any injustice, whether you belong to the Sixth or not, Zapatista or not Zapatista, Catholic or non-Catholic. If you are a person who lives injustice as we do, we will do what we can to support you.

We also continue to fight for our prisoners who belong to everyone, not just us. And all other prisoners too; these prisoners can count on San Sebastian Bachajón’s word of solidarity and unselfish interests. It takes a lot of organization, coordination and solidarity to liberate our compañeros who have been in prison for many years, and becoming poorer, sicker and less hopeful. Despite our economic poverty we are full of pride and enthusiasm to provide legal and political accompaniment to our our compañeros and to contribute something to their freedom. We humbly ask for your support in your own way that allows them to get out of the Bad Government’s dungeon and to free other fellow prisoners in Mexico and the world.

Santiago Moreno Pérez, prisoner in Playas de Catazajá Prison, is originally from La Pimienta and was serving as an Adviser to the Sixth’s Autonomous Security Council in 2009 when a serious problem occurred in the community. He and his son Sebastian were accused of murdering another La Pimienta resident. The community gathered to lynch them, but then decided not to kill them and turned them over to jail, but they also took all of their possessions before doing so. Some days later Santiago’s wife died and his children were orphaned. Apprehension orders have also been issued for the children accusing them of the same crime as Santiago. The compañero’s current situation is that he is still on trial. Many of his rights have been violated, and they rescheduled his case once, and that is why he has been unjustly detained for almost 8 years.

Emilio Jiménez Gómez, prisoner in Playas de Catazajá Prison, originally from Xanil, Chilón, Chiapas, is accused of assaulting an Italian tourist who was passing through Xanil community. Emilio, along with his father, were detained without an apprehension order by PRIista residents of the community. His father was released by the Palenque Public Prosecutor’s Office, but Emilio has been jailed since 2014. The compañero is awaiting sentencing and we expect that it may happen any day soon.

Esteban Gómez Jiménez, prisoner in the San Cristóbal de Las Casas Prison in Chiapas. He is originally from Salto de Tigre, Chilón, Chiapas, and he is accused of several serious crimes, like felony homicide, two violent assaults on tourists, and possession of a weapon of exclusive use to military. So far, he has been cleared of the charge of murder and possession of the military weapon, but the two charges of assault are still pending. Because he was attacked by other prisoners when he was in El Amate Prison, he asked to be transferred to the San Cristóbal de Las Casas Prison, which is where he is at the moment.

Considering the local and the national situation, we reaffirm our commitment and belief in the preparatory work that we are carrying out alongside the National Indigenous Congress and the Zapatista Army of National Liberation. The work is urgent and necessary in order to transform the reality of the country. Dispossession, repression, and contempt of the Bad Government is what will continue to be our reality unless we but brakes to their injustices.

From the Northern Zone in the state of Chiapas, the women and men of San Sebastián, we send you combative greetings.

Never again a Mexico without us

Land and freedom

Long live Zapata!

¡Hasta la victoria siempre!

Freedom for political prisoners!

Long live Juan Vázquez guzmán, and Bachajón’s struggle!

Long live Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano, and Bachajón’s struggle!

No to the dispossession of indigenous lands!

State police, Out of indigenous lands!

Immediate return of the disappeared and murdered “compañeros” from the teachers’ school  Normal Raúl Isidro Burgos de Ayotzinapa!

Justice for our compañero Juan Vazquez Guzman, Ayotzinapa, Acteal, ABC, Atenco!

The words of our compañero the indigenous activist Hugo Blanco Galdos from Peru give echo to all our efforts of solidarity during this week: “The attack on compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro from San Sebastián Bachajón is a sign that the oppressive system headed by Peña Nieto intends to crush the community of San Sebastián Bachajón. We must all raise our voices in protest so that the oppressors know that the brothers and sisters of that community are not alone.”

With the full support of the compas of la Sexta Bachajón, including Domingo Pérez Álvaro, and the family of Juan Vázquez Guzmán, who sent a videomessage in support, activities took place in Canada, England, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Spain, the United States and Uruguay. These included demonstrations, talks, exhibitions, pronouncements, discussions and the screening and production of videos, in which we all made a global echo of the following demands:

  • Respect for the fundamental human rights of the indigenous Tseltal peoples of San Sebastián Bachajón, and guarantees for their security and integrity
  • Respect and guarantees for their right to the full use and enjoyment of their territory and to self-determination and the construction of their autonomy
  • An end to the plunder and dispossession and the theft of commons,
  • An end to the permanent police presence and the militarisation of the area, and to the threats and violence which are being experienced
  • A full and fair investigation into the material and intellectual authors of the assassinations of Juan Vázquez Guzmán and Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano and a comprehensive investigation into the savage attack on Domingo Pérez Álvaro, and punishment of those responsible
  • Freedom and justice for Esteban Gómez Jiménez, prisoner in Cintalapa de Figueroa, and for Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, prisoners in Playas de Catazaja.

We thank you for your solidarity and support, and ask you all to remain alert and aware and responsive as to what may take place in the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, and to hold the three levels of government and their lackeys responsible for any acts of aggression.

Adherents From The Sexta Barcelona Join The Week Of Worldwide Action In Solidarity With The Ejidatarios Of San Sebastián Bachajón

bachajon-en-resistencia-2016-1

In the Global Day of Solidarity and Support to the ejidatarios of San Sebastian Bachajón in their fight against dispossession, the Adherents to the Sexta Barcelona will hold an exhibition and video screenings in the local offices of the General Confederation of Labour (as known in Spanish, ‘Confederación General del Trabajo-CGT’). These events will report on the expropriation of lands and natural resources that the bad Mexican Government plan to implement through the imposition of mega-projects which will bring dispossession and death for the indigenous peoples. The community, located in the northern part of the jungle in Chiapas, where the blue waters come together in the waterfalls, is known for its beauty and unique colour and is attractive and generates tourist interest.

This area is part of a comprehensive mega-tourism plan, including projects such as luxury hotels, an airport and golf courses. The intention is to continue destroying Mother Earth and all those who live in harmony with her, the last caregivers of the land that remain, the indigenous peoples, all to further grow the coffers of great capital. In addition there is the San Cristóbal – Palenque highway construction project, which if carried out, would affect several communities in the course of the project, and without regard for the fact that these lands are the life, the home and the sustenance for the communities that live there. And let us not forget the compas held prisoner for defending the land which now has cost them their liberty.

Wednesday, 7 December 2016 at 19.00

From The United States:  Declaration From Malú Huacuja Del Toro In Support Of The Sexta Bachajón

Week of Worldwide Action in Solidarity with the Ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón from 4th to 10th December 2016

A message to the courageous men and women guardians of our planet:

download-5I write to you from the financial capital of the Empire, now ruled by a multimillionaire, racist, sexist hotel-tycoon, who has shown absolute disregard for the life and human rights of anyone who does not have a great fortune. Nor does he believe in climate change, or that it is caused by the destructive, capitalist system. His aim is to continue to destroy the planet.

With the new Orange Devil as Emperor, Donald Trump, we can expect more building plans, for more arrogant towers, and more casinos that will attract drug trafficking, crime, prostitution and militarization, all while stripping small-scale farmers of their land and forcing them to become hotel employees. A day doesn’t go by without me thinking about you even though I have not met you. I simply know that you are the protectors of the natural resources of the planet and the lands of my country. From here I enjoy the image I have of the Agua Azul Waterfalls that you defend with your life. I cannot thank you enough for your collective resistance, courage and sacrifice. In your work to preserve nature, some of your comrades have lost their lives, and the bad government under the orders of corporate greed has tried to divide you, to buy you off, to create confusion with tangled stories criminalising you and muddying the waters to gain the greedy, upper hand.

download4I am indignant to see how the mass media, in the service of the Big Money, most of the time keep silent or lie about the attacks on Bachajón and the agreements the government has made with the hotel industry; and how they continue trying to evict you, while you promote a tourism responsible and respectful of nature that gives us and the planet life, a place which is our home.

But in this threatening panorama they have not been able to annihilate you. From Standing Rock to Bachajón, the original peoples of America defend the water: the Sioux people have just won a battle against the construction of an oil pipeline that would poison water, and the town of Bachajón continues to prevent large tourism consortiums from seizing the blue pools of the Agua Azul waterfalls. Thank you for being the guardians of the planet that we inhabit, compañeras and compañeros. I listen from a distance to the music of the waterfalls that you defend and I will keep resisting so others hear it too.

Malú Huacuja del Toro

From Mexico City, Mexico: Pronouncement From John Gibler In Support Of The Sexta Bachajón

Week of Worldwide Action in Solidarity with the Ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón, from 4th to 10th December 2016

110712-06

Capitalism and its bad governments, as is well-known, have an infamous ability to turn beauty into destruction and pain. Murder, displaced communities, fallen trees, and poisoned water and land, all for so called “luxury hotels”. Everything just to be able to sell tickets to a parade of tourists who will pay to take their picture in front of Agua Azul waterfalls, beneath the subjective gaze that seeks conquest, and further disconnection from natural life.

Also well-known is the strength of the people’s ability to live among beauty, plant their cornfield beside the waterfalls, enjoy and care for life, water, and land with the work and affection typical of farming life.

And there is the struggle. The women and men, compañeras and compañeros, from San Sebastián Bachajón, are there resisting invasion, struggling against displacement, while taking care of life.

I send you all my respect and hugs, compañeros and compañeras.

The struggle continues!

Week of Worldwide Action in Solidarity with the Ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón, from 4th to 10th December 2016

logoThe Hydra with its thousands of heads wants to dominate the world. The Hydra is capitalism, and the Hydra cannot bear that in this world there are rebellious men and women who do not want to serve capitalism as consumers. The Hydra cannot bear that there are indigenous communities defending their lands from the greed of the business developers with plans for mega-tourist projects. The Hydra cannot bear that dignified men and women love and care for nature, nor the fact that organised communities stand in solidarity with compañeros who have been kidnapped by the bad government because they defend their land and their culture.

Kidnapping, killing, threatening, sowing fear, corruption, theft and displacement, that’s how the Hydra responds to rebellious people.

zapatista-mx-la-hidra-capitalistaWe, members of Asociación Ya Basta Milan, Italy, stand in solidarity with the compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro who has been threatened, kidnapped, and beaten by agents from the bad government, as well as by people from the corrupt parties that the Hydra uses like puppets.

We stand in solidarity with Domingo’s family and we stand in solidarity with each and every man and woman from San Sebastian Bachajon. These men and women have for many years stood fighting, resisting and defending their land, and defending the forests and the water which gives life and happiness to the ejido residents. They fight with the dignity of those from below, against the arrogance of those from above.

Respect all human rights for indigenous communities!

Week of Worldwide action in solidarity with the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón, from 4th to 10th December 2016.

We do not want to miss this opportunity to support the compañeros of San Sebastian Bachajón with some phrases of indignation, compañerismo and solidarity.

We are with them, the guardians of the earth, caretakers of the water and protectors of the air, in this Mexico that is sinking under the dispossession and destruction guided by  voracious capital and supported by the powers of the State, which seeks to expropriate their lands, resources and territory .

The Agua Azul waterfalls and their territory are the heritage of the peoples who care for and maintain them.

The compas of Bachajón are constantly harassed, persecuted and murdered as was our beloved and admired Juan Vázquez.

Long live their struggle and resistance, we are with them!

From Oaxaca, México:

Pronouncement From Gustavo Esteva In Support Of The Sexta Bachajón

Week of Worldwide Action in Solidarity with the ejidatarios from San Sebastián Bachajón from 4 to 10 December 2016

To the Compañeros of the Sexta from San Sebastián Bachajón

download-3It is a time of danger. Everywhere. The nightmare is in reality, not in dreamland.

It is the time to maintain our resistance. And what we have learned in the past years is that  the best way to resist is to build a new world. Saying “no” is not enough. At the same time we need to be open to all the new “yeses” that communities make each day.

The Worldwide Week for Bachajón is an expression of that new world. In all corners of the world we face formidable challenges, and to worry and keep up with the compas who have resisted for so many years might seem irrelevant. The aggressions they have faced cost the life of compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán and threaten many others. Every day they deal with threats and betrayals, fending off the bad government’s harassment, intimidation and forced disappearances. But those challenges are not to be faced by those from above, those in the centres of oppressive power. The challenges we face are the ones between us, below. Together, intertwining arms, heads and hearts to make ourselves present in our struggles. Far from being insignificant, they are the ones that have real meaning.

hqdefaultFrom a corner of Oaxaca, we send the Bachajón compas a hug of solidarity. We want to accompany you. We can’t be very optimistic considering the storm, but we are full of hope. And hope is born in courageous hearts that don’t shirk adversity.

Today all of us, brothers and sisters, we will continue to give life to compa Juan Vázquez Guzmán.

Long live the struggle of San Sebastian Bachajón!

Day Of Worldwide Action In Solidarity With The Ejidatarios And Prisoners Of San Sebastian Bachajon, December 7th, Adherents To The Sixth From Barcelona

Week of Worldwide action in solidarity with the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón, from 4th to 10th December 2016.

jornada-global-bachajc3b3n-11-1

On the Worldwide Day of Solidarity and Support for the ejidatarios of San Sebastian Bachajón in their struggle against dispossession, the Adherents to the Sixth from Barcelona will be offering an exhibition and some videos in premises provided to us by the Local Federation of the CGT from Barcelona. We will provide information about the expropriation of lands and natural resources that the bad Mexican Government intends to carry out and the imposition of its megaprojects of plunder and death for the originary peoples.

In the territory located in the northern zone of the jungle of Chiapas are situated the waterfalls of Agua Azul, which provide a lot of attraction and tourist interest due their beauty and unusual colour. This territory forms part of a comprehensive mega-tourism plan, which includes projects such as luxury hotels, an airport and golf courses. For this, they intend to continue to destroy mother earth and all those who live in harmony with it, the last remaining guardians of the land, the originary peoples, in order to continue to inflate the coffers of great capital. In addition, there is the construction project for the San Cristóbal – Palenque highway, which, if carried out, would affect several communities in the planned area of the project. They do not care that these lands are the life, home and sustenance for the communities who live there. Without forgetting the compas prisoners who for the defence of their lands have lost their freedom …

Week of Worldwide action in Solidarity with the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón, 4th to 10th of December, 2016

Once again they attack us, threaten us and beat us. They try to destroy our resistance, our life.

Once again we resist and continue to build where they destroy.

Once again, as they have done for more than 500 years, they believe they are the owners of the lands and the peoples.

Once again we reclaim and defend the common wealth that is owned by no one but the peoples.

14695551_1800877260127828_8900945864639347493_nThis time it was the compa Domingo Pérez Álvaro who was first threatened first, then beaten and wounded.

We must let them know that when they beat Domingo they beat all of us, and that we will continue moving forwards for Domingo and for his family and for all the compas of the community of San Sebastián Bachajón, who will remain standing for as long as one of them still lives.

ALL SOLIDARITY WITH DOMINGO!

Convocation For The Week Of Worldwide Action In Solidarity With The Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón:

From Sunday, 4th December To Saturday, 10th December, 2016

bachajon-y-juan-espanol-grande

To our sisters and brothers of the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón

To our compañer@s adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandón Jungle throughout the world

To our Zapatista compañer@s

To the National Indigenous Congress (CNI)

To the people of Mexico and the world

Compañeras and compañeros,

We send you all warm greetings and embraces of solidarity from Canada, Estados Unidos, England, Mexico, Peru, United States and Uruguay.

We, Hermann Bellinghausen, Hugo Blanco, Circulo de las Primeras Naciones de l’UQAM, Gustavo Esteva, John Gibler, Dorset Chiapas Solidarity Group, Malu Huacúja del Toro, Sylvia Marcos, Movement for Justice in el Barrio, Jean Robert and Raúl Zibechi, wish to share with you a humble proposal and hope that you will wish to join with us from your own places and in your own ways to carry out the Week of Worldwide Action in solidarity with the Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón from Sunday, 4th December to Saturday, 10 December, Human Rights Day 2016.

This initiative is supported by the adherents to the Sixth from San Sebastián Bachajón.

Compañeras and Compañeros,

The indigenous Tseltal communities of the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, like so many originary peoples throughout the world, are under attack from the forces of capitalism and transnational corporations who will not rest until they have destroyed the entire planet with their megaprojects of death.

In San Sebastián Bachajón, the greed of governments and businesses covets the ownership of the beautiful waterfalls of Agua Azul, in order to construct an elite tourist destination. The ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón are obstacles to their plans and their profit, as they inherited the lands from their ancestors and care for them as a great treasure of humanity. For this reason, they have been recipients of threats, aggressions, arbitrary detentions, forced disappearances, imprisonment, torture, and attacks from state forces and paramilitary groups.

On 17th October 2016, a brutal attack took place against the tireless community organiser and human rights defender from La Sexta Bachajón, the indigenous Tseltal Domingo Pérez Alvaro. He was detained for three hours before being savagely beaten and threatened with death by the group of supporters of the official Ejidal Commissioner of San Sebastian Bachajón, Manuel Guzman Alvaro, who left him gravely injured and unable to speak.

It is time to raise our hands, words and voices in solidarity with the adherents to the Sixth Declaration from the ejido of San Sebastián Bachajón who are an inspiration to us all in their dignified struggle, and who are currently experiencing serious acts of violence and police and military occupation, along with eviction, deceit and plunder, in the continuing attempt to dispossess them of their ancestral lands and sacred places. These recent threats and acts of brutal aggression compel us to offer our solidarity.

**

As a direct result of the determination of the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón to defend their lands, their beloved community leader and spokesperson Juan Vázquez Guzmán was savagely assassinated with high velocity firearms on 24th April, 2013 and community organiser Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano was murdered with over 20 gunshots on 20th March 2014.

Domingo Pérez Álvaro is now being threatened with a similar fate.

We demand an end to the killings, attacks and threats of violence!

As part of the bad government’s policy three compañeros from San Sebastián Bachajón are now in prison. Over 150 people have been imprisoned since 2007. We demand freedom for the unjustly imprisoned Esteban Gómez Jiménez, Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez!

Compañeras and Compañeros:

The bad governments and their allies in multinational business corporations wish to destroy the indigenous peoples and all those who struggle from below and to the left, because it is only the organized resistance of autonomous communities against their wars and the destruction of our natural resources that can save the Mother Earth for our children.

For this reason, we call on you all to join together to continue the dignified struggle of the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón, so that all ways and forms of life may have their place.

In honour of all the work in the defence of human rights undertaken by Domingo Pérez Álvaro, let us raise our voices on World Human Rights Day, 10th December 2016, in solidarity with our compañer@s from La Sexta Bachajón. We therefore call on all who strive to build another, better, world, one of freedom, justice, democracy and dignity, to join our forces together to organize activities –from your own area and according to your different methods of struggle- to carry out the Week of Worldwide Action in support of the Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón from Sunday, 4th December to Saturday, 10 December, 2016.

Let us help make a global echo of the following demands:

  • Respect for the fundamental human rights of the indigenous Tseltal peoples of San Sebastián Bachajón, and guarantees for their security and integrity
  • Respect and guarantees for their right to the full use and enjoyment of their territory and to self-determination and the construction of their autonomy
  • An end to the plunder and dispossession and the theft of commons,
  • An end to the permanent police presence and the militarisation of the area, and to the threats and violence which are being experienced
  • A full and fair investigation into the material and intellectual authors of the assassinations of Juan Vázquez Guzmán and Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano and the savage attack on Domingo Pérez Álvaro, and punishment of those responsible

We ask you also to remain alert and aware and responsive as to what may take place in the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón and to hold the three levels of government and their lackeys responsible for any acts of aggression

We ask you to please let us know as soon as possible if you are able to accept our proposal and if you will participate. You can contact us by email at: solidaridadconssb@gmail.com

Resistance is Life! Dispossession is Death!

Land, Freedom and Justice for the Ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón!

State police out of indigenous territory!

Stop the Aggressions against the Adherents to the Sexta!

Freedom and Justice for Esteban Gómez Jiménez imprisoned in Cintalapa de Figueroa, and for Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, prisoners in Playas de Catazaja!

Denouncement From San Sebastián Bachajón, Adherents To The Sixth Declaration, 17th November 2016.

Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón Denounces Collaboration Of Member Of The Political Party MORENA In The Dispossession Of Their Territory

img_20161115_102934

Compañeros and Compañeras, receive our combative greetings. Here we want to make the word of our organization known regarding the latest actions of the officialist ejidal commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro. Furthermore, we ask for your help in sharing this message widely.

Since being recognised as taking the position of official authority of San Sebastián Bachajón, Guzmán Álvaro has carried out acts of violence with his people, in order to solicit the intervention of the authorities of the three levels of government. Since then he has been able to bring in the public forces which are today guarding the Indigenous territory of the ejido.

img_20161115_103042

Without the consent and knowledge of the pueblo, he has been utilizing the agreement of 2011 signed by Juan Sabines Guerrero and the ex-commissioner Francisco Guzmán Jiménez. While they were signing the agreement, 117 adherents of the sixth were kidnapped and unjustly incarcerated. A wave of violence and repression was carried out by the bad governors, together with the ex-ejidal commissioner Francisco Guzmán Jiménez. This agreement was not made under orders of the general assembly, but was organized and documented by a few bad leaders in the service of the bad government, and in this way they are utilizing the current ejidal commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro to ask for evictions, a police presence and benefits for themselves from the income of the waterfalls of Agua Azul

What the current ejidal commissioner is doing is deceiving the people, portraying his struggle as a dignified struggle in defence of territory, when he is acting as a servant of the bad government. The ideas they are using today are ideas of Juan Jiménez alias “JIGO” and are the same strategies that they utilized in 2011 in the repression of the compañerxs.

img_20161115_102954

Not only did he deceive the people at that time, but he is also doing the same today. Juan Jiménez participated with the ex-commissioner Pedro Álvaro Hernández who was also acting against the pueblo when he was the agent of Bachajón. This was together with the ex-ejidal commissioner Francisco Guzmán Jiménez, who also participated with the ex-ejidal commissioner Alejandro Moreno Gómez. Since that time he has been participating in harassment and repression, organizing paramilitary forces to dispossess the compañerxs, ejidatarios and adherents of the sixth.

Now once again they are deceiving the people, the Indigenous people who are not aware of what they are truly trying to do. Juan Jiménez is not only elaborating strategies to dispossess the lands of San Sebastián, but he is also a leader of the political party MORENA and the presidential candidate of Chilón, with the support of other political party members, as well as the advisor of the paramilitary group Paz y Justicia, who today is the sub-secretary of government of the Tzeltal and Chol jungle zone based in Yajalón, Chiapas, Lic. Alpuche. He too, has been carrying out repression and harassment against the compañerxs of the Tila ejido. With this sub-secretary, commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro and his security council have maintained close coordination, as can be seen in the photographs that are published with this note.

img_20161115_103022

During the roadblocks that were carried out in October this year by the ejidal commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro and his people, the money obtained in the roadblocks was put in to the hands of Juan Jiménez alias “JIGO” to finance his campaign to be municipal president of Chilón for the political party MORENA.

This explains how the current commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro is linked to the dispossession of the lands of San Sebastián Bachajón. He is participating with the political party members so that they can easily hand over our natural resources in to the hands of the bad government.

img_20161115_103009

The commissioner has obtained the support of a group of civil organisations, such as a human rights centre, which also accompanies the people but in reality is not doing this, which censors the word of our organisation, but also accompanies the same servants of the bad government, and which is aware of the agreement of 2011 which was falsely elaborated, and still give their support as you can see in the following:  http://chiapasdenuncia.blogspo t.mx/2016/09/ejido-san-sabasti an-bachajon-exige.html

We share with you the following photos which show the ejidal commissioner participating with political party members; among them the advisor of the paramilitary group Paz y Justicia, today sub-secretary of government for the Tzeltal and Chol jungle zone centred in Yajalón, Chiapas, Lic. Alpuche.

Combative Greetings

Government Failures Are Denounced In The “Struggle” For Land In Chiapas

Desinformémonos, 28th October, 2016

bachajonsede3

Mexico City | Desinformémonos. Members and adherents to the Sexta from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, Chiapas, denounced the false struggle for land that the officialist (ie government-supporting) ejidal commissioner, Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, promised to lead when he was a candidate for the position, because “so far he has not fulfilled and respected his word, because his actions have been completely contrary to this.”

They recalled that last September 23rd, Guzmán Álvaro came, together with a group of ejidatarios, to the area where the access to the waterfalls of Agua Azul is located, in order to evict those who confront his ideas, and that immediately after his arrival, the State Preventive police took over the headquarters of the Sexta in Bachajón.

Just a week after this happened, Guzmán Álvaro and his supervisory board issued a communiqué designed to convince people that their struggle is for the defence of the land and demanding that the government recognize them as an authority, “but not explaining the background of their true intentions to hand over the lands to the bad government”, they said.

In addition, on October 18th the officialist commissioner organised roadblocks in different parts of the ejido to ask for government intervention, ostensibly to solve internal problems, but actually to hand over their natural resources and ratify an agreement signed in 2011 to benefit transnational corporations. That same day, Domingo Pérez Álvaro, Tseltal member of the adherents to the Sexta from the ejido, was assaulted physically and subsequently arrested.

Pérez Álvaro was attacked when he was returning to his home after visiting Santiago Moreno Pérez, indigenous political prisoner imprisoned since 2009 in Playas de Catazajá on false charges with which he was incriminated in order to remove him from his position on the board of autonomous vigilance.

“This permanent presence of the bad government in our territory totally violates the rights of our people to autonomy and self-determination,” they said, and repudiated the “servile” attitude of the ejidal commissioner and the supervisory board that makes possible a policy of dispossession, through the support of civil human rights organizations, and the pretence that their movement is a struggle for the defence of the territory.

Now, in addition to giving land to the government, he is committing violent acts against social activists.

Finally, they denounced that members of the Commission of Guzmán Álvaro threw trees on to the roads and burned a municipal police patrol car, in order to call the government to intervene, so they are “solely responsible for any arrest and detention of the authorities and members of the sixth declaration of the ejido Bachajón.”

La Sexta Bachajón: Press Conference October 27, 2016 In El Paliacate Cultural Centre

photo527054292254828598-768x1024

FROM EJIDO SAN SEBASTIÁN BACHAJÓN, ADHERENTS TO THE SIXTH DECLARATION OF THE LACANDON JUNGLE, CHIAPAS, MEXICO 11 OCTOBER 2016

To the General Command of the Clandestine Revolutionary Indigenous Committee of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation

To the Councils of Good Government

To the National Indigenous Congress

To all compañer@s in Mexico and the World, adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle

To the mass and alternative media

To the Network against Repression and for Solidarity

To Movement for Justice in el Barrio, New York

To national and international human rights defenders

To the people of Mexico and the world.

Compañeros and compañeras, members of the communications media present at this press conference, receive militant greetings from the adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the ejido San Sebastian Bachajón, and our thanks for accepting our invitation to this press conference in which we want to let you know the word of our organization about the latest developments of dispossession and violence in our territory, occasioned by the bad government and the officialist ejidal Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro.

We share our outrage at the recent acts of the officialist ejidal Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, elected at the General Assembly of ejidatarios on 18th April this year. Before the election he presented himself to our organization and we listened to him because we are pueblo and brothers and sisters and this is our custom and the way of working of our organization which is struggling and seeking for the unity of our people. This was how we heard the word of the then candidate for Commissioner, who at that time was speaking of wanting to struggle and to defend the land of the ejido; he said he was aware of how previous Comissioners had not respected the autonomy and rights of the people of San Sebastian Bachajón and said that he would defend the land and respect the organization of la Sexta. But so far he has not fulfilled and respected his word, because his actions are completely contrary to what he said.

On 23rd September 2016 the officialist ejidal Commissioner C. Manuel Guzmán Álvaro entered the area of ejidal endowment where the access to the waterfalls of Agua Azul is located with a group of landowners, to evict the group of ejidatarios who were in a confrontation with them, concerning questions about the election of the Commissioner, led by CC. Manuel Jiménez Moreno, Juan Álvaro Moreno, Daniel Moreno Gómez, Carmen Aguilar and others who were claiming the access to the Agua Azul Waterfalls, located at the site of the headquarters of our organization, which was burned down on 21st March 2015. Immediately after the arrival of the Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, the State Preventive Police took over our headquarters.

On 30th September, 2016, the officialist ejidal Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro and his supervisory board issued a communiqué through the website “Chiapas
denuncia pública” (http://chiapasdenuncia.blogspot.mx/2016/09/ejido-san-sabastian-bachajon-exige.html) ) trying to pretend that their struggle is for the defence of the land and demanding that the government recognise them as an authority, but not explaining the background of their true intentions to hand over the land to the bad government.

On 18th October, 2016, the officialist commissioner organised roadblocks in different parts of the ejido to request the intervention of the bad government to supposedly resolve internal problems in the ejido, but actually designed to hand over our natural resources, to ratify the agreement made in 2011 and signed by Francisco Guzmán Jiménez alias Goyito with Juan Sabines Guerrero, all this for the future benefit of transnational corporations. On that day, people who are supporters of the Commissioner detained, beat and stole belongings from the compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro.

On 20th October, 2016, the authorities of the ejido la sexta Bachajón again received threats, these were threats of arrest or kidnapping by the people who are supporters of the officialist ejidal Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro. Members of the group of the ejidal commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro said they have a list of those threatened from la Sexta Bachajón. They verbally warned our compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro that they would finish him off, as they did to the compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán, executed at his home on the night of 24th April, 2013.

At the request and insistence of the ejidal Commissioner, the bad government gladly took the opportunity to send police troops to protect the area of Agua Azul, the police requested by the Commissioner changed places, 50% of them went to Xanil village, to the home of C. Carlos Jiménez Gómez, father of the two members of the state police: Carlos Jiménez Hernández y Rafael Jiménez Hernández, belonging to the state police, who are also involved in this harassment.

The bad government celebrates again the police presence in the area of Agua Azul, all with the continual manipulation and co-optation of the ejidal authorities who have been bought. Here is the word of the bad government that you can consult directly on their website: http://www.icosochiapas.gob.mx/2016/10/21/gobierno-del-estado-restablece-orden-en-agua-azul/.

This permanent presence of the bad government in our territory completely violates the rights of our people to autonomy and self-determination, which is why we repudiate the subservience of the Ejidal Commissioner and his Supervisory Board who continue to allow this policy of dispossession, obtaining the backing of civil human rights bodies and pretending that their movement is a struggle for the defence of territory when it is the opposite and also intends to hand over the land to the government, and commit violent acts against social activists.

We clarify as members of la Sexta Ejido Bachajón, that we deny all connection with all acts committed and organized by the officialist ejidal Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro towards civil society, because they have put trees onto the roads and have burned a patrol of the municipal police at the height of jolamaltzak, on the section of the road Ocosingo-Palenque, these acts were committed by the officialist ejidal Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro and his group, this was the manner in which they requested intervention from the state authorities; and we are making you aware that the sole responsibility for any detention and deprivation of liberty of the authorities and members of the sixth Declaration of the ejido Bachajón lies with the ejidal Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro.

We thank for their national and international solidarity all the compañeros and compañeras who remain alert as to what happens in San Sebastián Bachajón. We salute and express our solidarity to the Yaqui Tribe who are going through difficult times in their struggle and resistance, which is also ours.

From the northern state of Chiapas we send combative greetings from the women and men of San Sebastián Bachajón.

Never again a Mexico without us

Worldwide Pronouncement In Solidarity With Domingo Pérez Alvaro And The Community Of San Sebastián Bachajón, Adherents To The Sixth Declaration

14695551_1800877260127828_8900945864639347493_n

We energetically denounce the fierce aggression against Domingo Pérez Alvaro, indigenous Tseltal, ejidatario and adherent to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, which took place on Monday, October 17th, at approximately 4 pm, at the top of the crossroads of Alan Sajcun in the territory of the ejido.

According to a statement from the ejidatarios, the aggressors are people belonging to the group of supporters of the officialist Ejidal Commissioner, who are government supporters and enemies of the struggle carried out by the ejidatarios for their land and territory, which the bad capitalist government wants to take away from them in order to build a luxury tourist resort. This group of supporters of the officialist Ejidal Commissioner of San Sebastian Bachajón, Manuel Guzman Alvaro, detained compañero Domingo Pérez Alvaro and physically attacked him with heavy blows so that today he is still in a very delicate state of health.

The supporters of the Ejidal Commissioner accuse Domingo Pérez of taking part in collective works on the lands of the neighbouring community of Bolom Ajaw and of participating in La Sexta Bachajón. In fact, compañero Domingo Pérez Alvaro has participated since the founding of La Sexta Bachajón, he has walked in promoting human rights and participated in the National Indigenous Congress; he also took part in the 20th anniversary of the CNI. On the day of the attack, Domingo was returning from the prison of CERESO 17 in Playas de Catazaja, where he went to visit one of the political prisoners of Bachajón, Santiago Moreno Pérez, on behalf of the organization.

The brutal and serious attack on compañero Domingo Pérez Alvaro certainly took place because of his participation in the struggle of his people to defend their territory. As the ejidatarios say about the attackers: “We reject their actions of dispossession which only serve to confirm their agreements with the bad government to hand over ejido lands to them …. We condemn the actions of the Ejidal Commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro who we hold responsible for the integrity of our colleague Domingo Pérez Alvaro and any attack on the compañeros and compañeras of La Sexta Bachajon.”

Compas of good heart all around the world, we hereby ask for your solidarity with and support for La Sexta Bachajón. Please denounce these acts and disseminate this information, because it is reported that the compañero is in a grave condition following this attack.

We ask you to remain alert as to the situation in the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón.

Land and Freedom!

¡Hasta la victoria siempre!

Juan Vázquez Guzmán lives, the Bachajón struggle continues!

Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano lives, the Bachajón struggle continues!

Compas of the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, you are not alone!

Communiqué From San Sebastián Bachajon, 20th October, 2016

Community Leaders Of The Sexta Bachajon Receive Threats Of Detention And Kidnapping

bachajon-en-resistencia-2016-1

FROM THE EJIDO SAN SEBASTIAN BACHAJON ADHERENTS TO THE SIXTH DECLARATION OF THE LACANDON JUNGLE, 20 OCTOBER 2016

To the mass media and alternative media

To the Network against Repression and for Solidarity

To Movement for Justice in el Barrio, New York

To national and international human rights defenders

To the people of Mexico and the world.

Compañer@s, people fighting for social justice and autonomous organisations, the women and men of San Sebastian Bachajón send you greetings.

Today, the 20th of October, early in the morning, the ejido authorities of the Sexta Bachajón were again threatened. The leaders, including compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro, the community’s human rights promoter, were threatened that they would be detained or kidnapped by the people from the ejido commission headed by C. Manuel Guzmán Álvaro. The news was delivered by third parties from the village of Xanil, members of Manuel Guzmán Álvaro’s ejido commission, who said that compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro is first on the list of people to threaten followed by the rest of the authorities of the Sexta Bachajón. They also reported that 50% of the police were currently in the village of Xanil, in the home of C.Carlos Jiménez Gómez, whose two sons are state police; Carlos Jiménez Hernández and Rafael Jiménez Hernández, members of the state police who are also taking part in this harassment.

We state that any detention or deprivation of freedom that occurs to the authorities of the sixth declaration of the ejido Bachajón will be the responsibility of the ejidal commissioner. This is exactly what they did to our compañero Emilio Jiménez Gómez, an adherent to the Sexta; they illegally detained him, and turned him over to the police, who invented crimes and then sent him to prison, and today he is a prisoner in Playas de Catazaja.

As members of the ejido Sexta Bachajón we state clearly that we had nothing to do with the acts organised and committed by C. Manuel Guzmán Álvaro’s ejidal commission. These people threw trees in the road, they burned a municipal police patrol vehicle near Jolamaltzak on the Ocosingo-Palenque highway. These social disturbances were committed by the ejidal commissioner C. Manuel Guzmán Álvaro and his group, and used as a way to invite the intervention of the state authorities.

This same day in the morning the principal of the ejido commission, C. Agustín Saragos Gómez, the agent of the El Paraiso community, C. Jerónimo Moreno Gómez, and a direct representative from the El Paraiso ejido commission, C. Manuel Jiménez Álvaro, threated our compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro with death; this death threat was on the orders of the ejido commissioner C. Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, who told his collaborators that compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro would be finished off as they had done to the late Juan Vázquez Guzmán, murdered 24th April 2013, for defending Mother Earth until the bad government sent its hitmen to kill our compañero.

We make clear this threat against our compañeros, adherents to the Sexta and we hold C. Manuel Guzmán Álvaro and his people responsible for any detention, kidnapping and/or deprivation of liberty that may befall the Bachajón Sexta ejido authorities, including all members of this autonomous organisation.

We will keep you informed of any incident or act committed by the ejido commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro.

Never again a Mexico without us

RvsR Following The Attack On A Member Of The Sixth From San Sebastián Bachajón

dsc02691

Yesterday, October 17th, our comrade Domingo Pérez Álvaro, a member of the Adherents to the Sixth from San Sebastián Bachajón, was stopped by a gang of thugs led by the official commissioner of San Sebastián Bachajón, Manuel Guzmán Álvaro. He was beaten up after having visited the political prisioners in Playas de Catazaja. Our comrade is seriously injured.

Since May of this year, our comrades, women and men of San Sebastián Bachajón, have denounced the bad administration of the official commissioner, how his administration has collaborated in the destabilization of the area, provoking clashes with the partisans and accusing the men and women who are adherents to the Sixth of holding road blocks and other actions in which they have never participated. The official commissioner has also allowed the Preventative State Police to estabish itself in the area, in spite of promises not to allow its presence in Bachajón. It is clearly a strategy that intends to slow down the process of autonomy being undertaken by our comrades; this is the real threat to those on ‘top’, since we know the area’s juicy economic potential for ecological tourism and big hotel businesses. The dispossession strategy is also evident.

Sadly, police repression, the incarceration of political prisoners and murders have accompanied the autonomous process of our comrades, women and men, of San Sebastián Bachajón. It pains us once more to hear the news of this attack on Domingo, our comrade Domingo. It fills us with indignation and anger towards those responsible: the official commissioner MANUEL GUZMÁN ÁLVARO, the municipal president of Chilón, the governor of the State of Chiapas MANUEL VELASCO COELLO, the president of Mexico ENRIQUE PEÑA NIETO, all of them puppets in the hands of corporate interests in the area, those interested in building a new Cancun in Agua Azul, with dispossession, repression and death.

Let us remain vigilant, spread the word, demonstrate our solidarity with the Tzeltal dignity being constructed in San Sebastián Bachajón.

STOP THE AGGRESSIONS IN BACHAJÓN!

JUSTICE FOR OUR COMRADE DOMINGO!

LONG LIVE THE AUTONOMIES!

LONG LIVE BACHAJÓN!

San Sebastián Bachajón Denounces The Deeds Of The Officialist Ejido Commission

20150208_062718_mx_chiapas_bachajon_w1024_par_valk

Communiqué From Bachajón: “They Are Allowing The Police And Army Into Our Territory!” 11th October 2016

Our organisation, the autonomous ejido San Sebastián Bachajón has been defending the Earth and our territory for many years. We have been struggling in defence of Nature since the 14th of March 2007. That’s 11 years of dignified struggle. A lot of compañeros have lost their lives defending Mother Earth and other people have also been unjustly imprisoned for doing the same. The bad government has incarcerated 130 of our compañeros simply for their uncompromising commitment to defending Mother Earth. At the moment 3 compañeros are unjustly held as prisoners in different penitentiary centres, where they are denied their freedom. For all of this, we demand that you respect our struggle, our organisation, our autonomous authorities and the spilled blood of our fallen compañeros.

Combative greetings to all compañeros and compañeras and your organisations and communities in resistance from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, adherents to the Sixth Declaration. We celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Indigenous Congress and send a combative greeting to all compañeros and compañeras who are present in Chiapas for this.

We want to use this opportunity to tell you what’s been happening in our community San Sebastián Bachajón. We want to share our outrage about what the official commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, elected by the ejidatarios’ general assembly 18 April of this year, has done. As an indigenous and organised community we are aware that the bad government wants to displace us and that Manuel Guzmán Álvaro is part of that plan. On the 23rd of September 2016 the officialist ejido commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, along with a group of ejido residents, entered into our ejido’s territory, which has access to the Agua Azul waterfall, with the intention of displacing us. Another group of compañeros headed up by Manuel Jiménez Moreno, Juan Álvaro Moreno, Daniel Moreno Gómez, Carmen Aguilar and others had been collecting the fee to visit the Agua Azul waterfalls. This is the same place where our organisation had had its headquarters until it was burned down on 21 March 2015.

Immediately after Commissioner Manuel Guzman Alvaro’s arrival, the State Preventive Police took control of our headquarters, and for this we declare our rejection of police presence and the fact that the commissioner facilitated this incursion. This act demonstrates the desire to displace us from our land, and sends signals that Manuel Guzmán Álvaro is a servant of the bad government and a threat to the autonomy of San Sebastián Bachajón.

This is the same commissioner Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, who along with his supervisory board, publicly circulated on the 30th of September 2016 via the web page “Chiapas denuncia pública” (http://chiapasdenuncia.blogspot.mx/2016/09/ejido-san-sabastian-bachajon-exige.html) his version of what happened at the Agua Azul Waterfall toll booth. They demand to be recognised as the authorities and are carrying out blockades in various points in order to be heard. But in reality, they are not respecting our dignified struggle, our territory and autonomy as a community. Nor does the commissioner respect his own campaign commitment when he said he would not permit the bad government and their police entry to our land. But in reality what is happening is a trick to fool public opinion that this movement is one for truth, when in reality it is follows the same interests of the out-going commissioner Alejandro Moreno Gómez and the former commissioner Francisco Guzmán Jiménez also known as “el goyito”. Their actions are moving in the same direction as the bad government, and follow the lines as signed in agreement by Francisco Guzmán Jiménez with Juan Sabines Guerrero.

Our organisation, the autonomous ejido San Sebestián Bachajón has been defending the Earth and our territory for many years. We have been struggling in defence of Nature since the 14th of March 2007. That’s 11 years of dignified struggle. A lot of compañeros have lost their lives defending Mother Earth and other people have been unjustly imprisoned for also defending Mother Earth. The bad government has incarcerated 130 of our compañeros simply for their uncompromising commitment to defending Mother Earth. At the moment 3 compañeros are unjustly held prisoner in different penitentiary centres, where they are denied their freedom. For all of this, we demand that you respect our struggle, our organisation, our autonomous authorities and the spilled blood of our fallen compañeros. The dignified struggle is not for sale. It is built day after day, it is built in the memory of compañeros. We will continue standing and we will not permit the bad government to continuing buying the conscience of our indigenous communities.  This is actually what is happening when the ejido commissioner allows the police and army to enter into our territory. We are aware that what he wants to do is create a paramilitary force to finish off our struggle. He wants people to think that his struggle is also dignified when in reality what he does is contrary to what he says. Further he has no knowledge about what the bad government really wants to do to our community and territory.

No more unjust imprisonments. We demand immediate freedom for our compañeros Esteban Gómez Jiménez imprisoned in Cintalapa de Figueroa, Chiapas (amate #14) Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, prisoners in Playas de Catazaja, Chiapas (ceress #17) who were imprisoned for having a commitment to struggle for and defend Mother Earth. We also demand freedom for all men and women political prisoners in Mexico and the world.

The women and men from the northern zone in the state of Chiapas, from the community of San Sebastián Bachajón send combative greetings to all of you compañeros and compañeras, communities and people of Mexican and the world who struggle and resist against the bad governments.

Never again a Mexico without us

Urgent: Adherents To La Sexta From San Sebastián Bachajon Denounce Military Presence In Their Area.

2bacha-350x263

19th October 2016

800 public security police and 400 paramilitaries are presently near to Zapatista territory and the ejido Bachajón

Compañeros and compañeras, organizations, receive our combative greeting.

We ask for your help to share this urgent information.

This morning, at about 9:00 am, the presence of public safety officers at the crossroads to the access road to the Agua Azul waterfalls was observed; it was reported that there were 5 buses of public safety officers, 7 large trucks and 8 small trucks which were accompanied by 25 small trucks of paramilitaries; a helicopter from the state police is flying over Zapatista territory, there are approximately 800 officers of public security and 400 paramilitaries, which makes 1200 people in total who are going to participate in the eviction of a group of ejidatarios headed by CC. Daniel Moreno Gómez, Manuel Jiménez Moreno, Juan Álvaro Moreno and  Carmen Aguilar, among others, who are in possession of the toll booth; this action is not only the eviction of those groups, but also represents a major threat to the adherents to the sixth and the compañeros support bases of the EZLN, since they are situated in indigenous territories and Zapatista territories, which favours the dispossession of our land; it should be noted that this work is organized by the ejidal commissioner C. Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, because they have held roadblocks at different points on the 17th and 18th of this month to demand the intervention of the state authorities to attend to ejidal problems; the same people issued a communiqué on 15th October this year which demands that arrest warrants are executed and requests the intervention of state authorities to evict groups of ejidatarios and address the problems of the community of Agua Azul. We as adherents to La Sexta reject the police presence in our territory, because many of the indigenous compañeros are unaware of what the ejidal commissioner is doing, making it easy for the bad government to enter into indigenous territories.

Long live autonomy.

The police of the bad government out of indigenous territories.

Violent Attack On Indigenous Tseltal Defender Of The Land From San Sebastian Bachajón

October 18, 2016

14695551_1800877260127828_8900945864639347493_nEjidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón, adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle and participants in the CNI, reported a fierce attack against Domingo Pérez Álvaro, who is now in delicate condition. According to a communiqué from the ejidatarios, on Monday 17 October, at approximately 4 pm, people belonging to the group of the officialist ejidal commission, who are pro-government and against the struggle being carried out by the ejidatarios for land, detained and assaulted Domingo Pérez at the top of Alan Sajcun when he was on his way home.

Domingo Pérez, an indigenous Tseltal, was imprisoned for five months, along with other ejidatarios, in 2011 in the prison CERESO 17 at Playas de Catazajá on false charges and multiple violations of their human rights, for his actions in defence of the land. On the day of the attack, Domingo was returning from the same prison, where he went to visit another political prisoner from Bachajón, Santiago Moreno Pérez, on behalf of the organization.

According to the statement, the people of the ejido accused Domingo Pérez of participating in collective works on lands of the neighbouring community of Bolom Ajaw and of participating in la Sexta Bachajón. Indeed, Domingo has participated in la Sexta Bachajón since its founding, acting as a promoter of human rights and participating in the National Indigenous Congress.

Here is the communiqué:

Urgent. Deprivation Of Liberty And Physical Assaults On Compañero From La Sexta Bachajon

October 18, 2016

ap16289648596006

URGENT. Domingo Pérez Álvaro, one of the adherents to the Sixth from the Ejido San Sebastian Bachajon and a CNI participant, has been seriously assaulted; he is our Tseltal compañero and has struggled with his people to defend their territory against the bad capitalist governments; they attacked him when he was returning from his work visiting the prisoners from Bachajón in Playas de Catazajá. We ask please for your denouncement of the acts, and dissemination of the information, because the compañero is reported to be in a grave condition following the attack, so we send you this message:

“We hereby inform you that today at about 4 pm a group of people, followers of the officialist Ejidal Commissioner of San Sebastian Bachajon, Manuel Guzman Alvaro, arrested and physically assaulted compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro, when he was at the top of the crossroads of Alan Sajcun travelling towards his home after performing work for the organization visiting compañero prisoner Santiago Perez Moreno at CERSS 17, Playas de Catazaja, Chiapas.

Compañero Domingo Pérez Álvaro is in a delicate condition after receiving strong blows from the people of the ejido, who claim he allegedly participated in collective work in the lands of Bolom Ajaw and participated in La Sexta Bachajón.

Comrade Domingo Pérez Álvaro participated ever since the founding of La Sexta Bachajon; he has walked in promoting human rights and participates in the National Indigenous Congress, he also participated in the 20th anniversary of the CNI.

We give this urgent word to let you know and to ask for your support through the dissemination of information. We condemn the actions of the ejidal commissioner Manuel Guzman Alvaro who we hold responsible for the integrity of our colleague Domingo Pérez Álvaro and for any attack that may take place on the compañeros of La Sexta Bachajon. We ask you to remain alert for more information we will publish.

We reject their acts of dispossession which only serve to confirm their agreements with the bad government to deliver ejido lands to them.

combative greetings

Urgent Information About The Communiqué From The Officialist Commissioner Of San Sebastián Bachajón.

The Compañeros Ejidatarios Of La Sexta Ejido Bachajon Warn Us That The Communiqué Issued By The Officialist [Government-Supporting] Commissioner Of San Sebastian Bachajon, Published On The Website Of Chiapas Denuncia Pública [Frayba] Does Not Represent The Thinking And The Struggle Of The Ejidatarios And Ejidatarias Of La Sexta Bachajon.

14523114_366802173709474_3620644798592282766_n

Compañeros and compañeras, we ask for your help in giving more publicity to this urgent information about the communiqué from the officialist commissioner of San Sebastián Bachajón.

We send you our combative greetings, and give all due respect for your organizations and peoples in resistance. We want to say a few words, although for now they will be short but clear and will leave no doubt about what is happening in our territory.

The officialist ejidal commissioner of San Sebastián Bachajón released a communiqué today September 30, 2016 (http://chiapasdenuncia.blogspot.mx/2016/09/ejido-san- sabastian-Bachajon-exige.html ), but it does not represent the thought and struggle of the ejidatarios and ejidatarias of La Sexta San Sebastian Bachajón, because it does not respect the territory and autonomy of our people nor does it respect his commitment when he was campaigning to become Commissioner, because he said he would not allow the bad government’s police to remain in our lands, but that is what he is currently doing and trying to fool the public that his movement is truly a struggle when in reality he is pursuing other interests. His actions make us think that he is in the service of the projects and plans of the bad government.

14495525_366800780376280_2105634988096600230_n

In the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón our autonomous organization has spent many years working in defence of the lands and many compañeros have lost their lives in defence of Mother Earth, for this reason we ask that you respect our struggle, our organization and our autonomous authorities.

The police and bad government out of our territory.

Long live autonomy.

Ejidatarixs From San Sebastián Bachajón Adherents To La Sexta, Denounce Police Presence And The Takeover Of Their Headquarters

Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón: information about acts on 23rd September 2016 in our territory

14433006_1099684513453407_4000797051939633683_n

Compañeros and compañeras

Our organisation wants to make known some events that have taken place over the past few days in our territory. On 23 September 2016, at approximately 10am, Manuel Guzmán Álvaro, from the official ejido commission, elected in the assembly of the past 18th of April, entered the toll zone which controls access to the Agua Azul Waterfalls. He was accompanied by a group of ejidatarios seeking to forcibly displace another group of ejidatarios headed up by MANUEL JIMENEZ MORENO, JUAN ALVARO MORENO, DANIEL MORENO GOMEZ, CARMEN AGÜILAR and others. These compañerxs had been overseeing the entrance to the Agua Azul Waterfall, the same place where our organisation’s headquarters had been until 21 March 2015 when it was burned down. Immediately following the arrival of Manuel Guzmán Álvaro from the commission into our territory, agents from the State Preventive Police force arrived and took over the zone. We denounce and reject this police presence which was facilitated by the San Sebastián Bachajón ejido commissioner. This act further demonstrates the desire to drive us from this land and shows that the commissioner is a servant of the bad government, which works to destroy the autonomy of the community San Sebastián Bachajón.

We ask that you remain alert about what is happening in our community. Combative greetings.

Comrades in general we wish you all a good day, receive a warm greeting from the adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón.

Today marks two years since the barbaric repression in Iguala committed by the Mexican state, also killing three people and leaving three others in a coma due to the repression suffered, at the same time leaving 43 young normal school student teachers disappeared, so far they have not been given justice.

These figures are added to thousands of killed and disappeared throughout the country as well as hundreds of political prisoners incarcerated for their commitment to the defence of the peoples and of life, because we are tired of our natural resources being exploited, the bad government sends our compañeros to prison for defending our mother earth, for organising themselves, that was the crime they committed, when all we want is that our rights are respected, and our natural resources.

For the results implemented by the Mexican narco-state against the people, to impose their projects of plunder and territorial destruction by large private multinational companies, have been accompanied by the constitution, since the bad government with its reforms has privatized what corresponds to society, violating our rights as indigenous people, as they want to put an end to our struggle to achieve their ends.

We join the national and worldwide clamour; we open our hearts to the rage and pain of the parents of our young disappeared compañeros, we protest against the bad government, we will continue in the demand for the live appearance of the missing students from Ayotzinapa. We tell them they are not alone, their struggle in the demand for justice is ours.

No more unjust imprisonments, we demand the immediate release of our compañeros unjustly imprisoned, Esteban Gómez Jiménez imprisoned in Cintalapa de Figueroa, Chiapas (amate # 14) Santiago Moreno Perez and Emilio Jimenez Gomez, prisoners in Playas de Catazajá, Chiapas (ceress # 17) who were imprisoned for having the commitment to fight and defend mother earth; we also demand the freedom of other political prisoners of Mexico and the world.

From the Northern Zone of the state of Chiapas, the women and men of San Sebastián send combative greetings to all the compañeros and compañeras and to the communities and people in Mexico and the world who are in resistance.

Report Of Beatings And Harassment Of Political Prisoner From Bachajón

14212651_544566009061588_8481579006748179902_n

Compañeros and compañeras we wish you all a good day; through this letter we are sending some urgent information from our compañero prisoner Esteban Gómez Jiménez and ask you to please circulate it.

Today, 21st September, 2016, we received the following information by telephone from compañero Esteban Gómez Jiménez from CERSS number 14 el Amate. Here is his word:

“Compañeros and compañeras, my name is Esteban Gómez Jiménez, I send a cordial greeting to my compañeros from San Sebastian Bachajón, the Indigenous National Congress (CNI) and social activists; I have been imprisoned since 2012, I was arrested in the ranchería Pamalha in the municipality of Chilon, when I was chopping wood, where the state police came to arrest me accompanied by a paramilitary; I was taken to playas de catazaja, cersso number 17 where they fabricated crimes against me. I am unjustly imprisoned in jail, they arrested me for organising and for defending mother earth.

This is why I am sending this message to help me get my freedom, because here in prison they treat us badly, so I request my freedom because I am innocent, I am imprisoned unjustly they charged me with a crime in which I was  never involved as well as with assault, murder, carrying a firearm, organized crime; my crime was to get organized and defend our mother earth, so I ask all the compañeros and organizations to help me get my freedom, because here in jail they treat us badly; yesterday afternoon 20thSeptember, 2016 I was attacked by a person at about 5.30 pm, when I was talking normally to my compañeros and suddenly that person arrived, his name is José Guzmán Hernández, he started to to criticize and attack me verbally, saying that I am in an organization which is good for nothing, then he started to attack me physically, he hit me in the face, my nose started to bleed and my face was swollen, those who were in charge of the prisoner did not proceed to do anything when he was hitting me; I was not given medical attention, on the contrary I was charged  500 pesos for what happened, and it was not me who started the fight, I was the one they came to provoke and attack; the person who hit me gets along well with those in charge of those who are imprisoned, which is why they did not say anything; if I had not paid the 500 pesos they were going take me out of the place where I sleep, so a compañero lent me the 500 pesos and he watched so they would not throw me out; some people who know José Guzmán Hernández tell us that he was a prisoner in “Ocosingo” and then for his bad behaviour he was sent here to el “amate.” He was the one who physically attacked me, so for this reason I ask you to help me to demand my freedom because I’m afraid they could attack me again or they could kill me here in prison.”

We ask you all compañeros y compañeros, according to your customs and abilities, to offer what solidarity you can to compañero Esteban to protect his integrity and obtain his release as soon as possible.

combative greetings

santiago-morena-perezI ask you to please help me get out of here, this is what I ask you, I have difficult days here and so does my family, my relatives who are outside are not happy because they are in poor health also, so I ask you to help me to get out.

Santiago has been a prisoner since 2009 in Playas de Catazajá, Chiapas on accusations made by members of the PRI from the community of La Pimienta, because at the time he was arrested he held the position of autonomous vigilance councillor for the other campaign and he was blamed for a crime he did not commit in order to remove him from his position.

Compañeros and compañeras we wish you all a good day, receive a warm greeting from the adherents to the Sixth Declaration from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón.

In this meeting which is taking place in the municipal headquarters of Chilón, Chiapas against the acts of the bad government, here with our presence and our voice
we want to share the struggle and resistance against all the acts of the bad governors who seek to finish off our people, who want to impose their reforms to the constitution, privatizing oil, education, raising taxes, taking away labour rights and benefiting national and foreign companies so they can exploit our natural resources, forgetting our past and our history.

We want you to know that in this struggle we will continue with dignity and autonomy, we will continue standing in struggle and in expectation of victory, the struggle and the memory of our fallen compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán still lives and his blood was not shed in vain, our compañero gave his life to transform this world held hostage by the capitalist mentality.

14222126_1788332551451995_7827567046303421944_n

For the bad government is truly responsible for all the daily injustices being committed in our pueblo, buying consciences, intending to gain control of territory in every pueblo and community, to manage society at their will.

San Sebastián Bachajón is a very dignified pueblo, where struggle and memory are not for sale, our customs and traditions come from our ancestors, the belief of our Maya grandparents in worship and respect for our mother earth.

In this same communiqué, we mention the struggle of the teachers in defence of public education, the teachers’ movement of the National Coordinator of Education Workers [CNTE] to support them against the misnamed education reform that the Mexican state wants to impose, enough of so much injustice, now no more attacks against society, no more kidnappings, assassinations, forced disappearances, evictions, human rights violations. Once again the bad government ordered the eviction of the teachers in Oaxaca, who kept their tents in the zócalo, on 11 September this year, the bad government is solely responsible for the repression against society.

Now that there are laws there is a lot of insecurity in the pueblos and communities because the law is not made for us, the poor, but for those with money, the rich landowners from the political parties who are transforming this, eventually disintegrating the pueblos day by day, the invasion and the ambition of the politicians who want to take control of our culture and our peoples and their cities, politicians who are clinging on violently in order to get what they want regardless of the human costs that they leave during their passage in the elections, this is how the system of the bad government operates.

14292493_1089598274462031_1916220692008512728_n

We will continue struggling in order to breathe peace and harmony, the revolution of our ancestors is not for sale, because it was as a result of their struggles and their work that they achieved what belongs to us for our future generations. We denounce the bad government which continues with the dispossession of our lands for their tourism megaprojects and exploitation of natural resources, we reject with scorn their policy of death and submission through government projects which put to sleep the conscience of our communities.

We send a combative greeting to our Chol compañeros and compañeras from the Ejido Tila in Chiapas who have taken control of the administration which the bad government of Juan Sabines illegally stole from them many decades ago. We embrace their struggle, their tireless efforts by to construct autonomy and government for the indigenous and non-indigenous people living in the pueblo of Tila. We say to them that they are not alone and if they touch one of you, they touch all of us. We regret the death of the two young people killed cruelly in ejido lands, called Carmita Lopez Perez, 19 years old, and Rafael López Pérez, aged 20, all this violence is generated and promoted by groups linked
to the municipal council of Tila that seeks to sow division and hatred among the organized people of Tila.

No more unjust imprisonments. We demand the immediate release of our unjustly imprisoned compañeros Esteban Gómez Jiménez imprisoned in Cintalapa de Figueroa,
Chiapas (amate No 14,) and Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, prisoners in Playas de Catazajá, Chiapas (ceress No 17.)They were all imprisoned for being committed to fight and defend mother earth and also the freedom of other political prisoners of Mexico and the world, who are being repressed and criminalized for the defence of the mother earth and natural resources.

From the Northern Zone of the state of Chiapas, the women and men of San Sebastián send combative greetings to all the compañeros and compañeras and to the communities and people in Mexico and the world who are in resistance.

Tzeltal Indigenous Jailed For Organizing And Defending The Mother Earth

14222126_1788332551451995_7827567046303421944_n

September 11, 2016

To the national and international sixth

To the free and alternative media

I am Esteban Gómez Jiménez, a native of San Sebastian Bachajón, at this time when I am making a public announcement, I have been (four years and four months) in prison.

I was detained first in the prison of Playas de Catazajá and they moved me to el Amate, CERESO 14 in the municipality of Cintalapa, Chiapas, because they accused me of the carrying of firearms, then a homicide, another assault, for all these have I always been delivered in legal affairs absolution of my freedom.

In the middle of this year, I was accused of another crime, that of organized crime, in the sense that I am in an organization as an indigenous from the Lacandon Jungle of the Sixth National and international.

The bad government, the government ministries, as well as the judges of the first instance, they hire people, or the state police, to fabricate these crimes. What they do not want is for me to defend my rights and associate with an organization. As a person of age and as part of the organization we have never participated in these crimes of which they accuse us.

For the moment, to the national and international public I request my freedom immediately as I am innocent, we are always respecting the internal regulations of the organization, as indigenous we are able to work and cultivate the Mother Earth. As Mexicans, as Chiapans, we in the organization are able to respect all the other members, organizations and societies.

I call for national and international solidarity to achieve my freedom

They imprison me for organising and for defending Mother Earth

Greetings to all political prisoners in the country

Please remain aware of my situation because I am an innocent prisoner

Sincerely

Esteban Gomez Jimenez

Compañeros and compañeras in struggle and resistance, receive a combative greeting from the compañeros and compañeras adherents to the Sixth Declaration from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón.

On this day we express on behalf of our organization and struggle our support and solidarity with the defenders of public education against the so-called education reform which the Mexican state wants to impose.

We want to tell teachers that we support and we join their fight to defend education as a right for all our countrymen, so that future generations have this free space to have access to public education, we are following their struggle, because it is also ours.

Teachers, from our hearts we tell you not to give up, for one minute on your feet standing in struggle is worth more than a lifetime on your knees.

We are here because our voice is stronger than any wall, the weak do not struggle. Those who are stronger perhaps struggle for an hour. Those who are even stronger, struggle for a few years. But the strongest of all, those who struggle for their whole lives, they are the indispensable ones.

A month since the brutal repression in Nochixtlan, Oaxaca, on 19th June, when the federal police opened fire on the demonstrators, and several of them were killed by gunshot fire, we hold the bad government responsible for any repression and aggression against Mexican society; the bad government can beat us, can kill us, can take our bodies, but it will never make us obedient to a traitor to the motherland.

Finally, from the bottom of our hearts, with our brothers and compañeros in struggle we have put together a little help and we deliver these supplies to the defenders of public education, in order to support the mobilization in which they are active today.

Compañeros and compañeras in struggle and resistance, receive a combative greeting from the compañeros and compañeras adherents to the Sixth Declaration from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón.

Today, with this communiqué, we protest the acts committed by the bad government against the Mexican people who raise their voice, those who defend natural resources and those who defend human rights, enough of so much violence and injustice, no more aggression against the indigenous peoples and compañeros in struggle, the bad government does not like the organisations who demonstrate to defend their rights, so we hold the bad governors responsible for the repression, eviction and assaults against the compañeros who are fighting to defend their rights.

At the same time in this communiqué we want to tell the compañeros, the teachers in defence of public education they are not alone, because our organization unites with the teachers’ movement of the National Coordinator of Education Workers in support against the badly named education reform which the Mexican state wants to impose and who will not allow another massacre like the one that happened in Nochixtlan, Oaxaca, where the government acted cruelly against the parents and defenders of public education, using high-powered weapons to dislodge the people of Nochixtlan from the roadblocks, where the federal police carried out the eviction, violently opening fire against demonstrators who were unarmed, taking the lives of at least eleven people by gunshots, people killed by guns fired by agents of the Federal and state police, among those who were identified were Andrés Aguilar Sanabria, professor of indigenous Education; Yalid Jiménez Santiago, aged 29, originating from the Santa Maria Apazco district of Nochixtlán, who was travelling in a van which was pierced by gunshots; Oscar Nicolás Santiago aged 22 years, from the community of Las Flores Tilantongo;  Anselmo Cruz Aquino, aged 33, a trader from Santiago Amatlán; and Jesús Cadena, aged 19, a student from Asunción Nochixtlán; it is said that more than 94 people were injured by gunfire.

We also want to give a combative and greetings of solidarity to the compañeros of Xayakalan in their dignified struggle and resistance, which was the subject of repression, eviction and assault by the Mexican state; on 29th June, 2009, the indigenous community of Santa Maria Ostula, in the municipality of Aquila, Michoacan, recovered 1200 hectares of their communal lands which had been taken from them. In 2014 the community reactivated its community police and communal guard, allowing the return of some 200 families who had been displaced. Today the community is strong and organized, today the struggle of the comuneros (common landholders) continues in resistance, since they have regained their terr20150208_082924_Mx_Chiapas_Bachajon_w1024_par_ValKitory; the anniversary of the founding of Xayakalan was held on 28th and 29th June.
We demand the immediate release of our unjustly imprisoned compañeros Esteban Gómez Jiménez prisoner in Cintalapa de Figueroa, Chiapas (amate no. 14,) Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, prisoners in Playas de Catazajá, Chiapas (cereso no. 17,) who were imprisoned for having the commitment to fight and defend mother earth and also for the freedom of other political prisoners of Mexico and the world.

From the Northern Zone of the state of Chiapas, the women and men of San Sebastián send combative greetings to all the compañeros and compañeras and to the communities and people in Mexico and the world who are in resistance.

“Our Organization Unites With The Teachers’ Movement Of The CNTE” – Ejido Bachajón.

BachajOnBloqueo_1_040716 (1)

.

Chiapas, Mexico. July 4th. “We want to tell our compañeros, the teachers in defence of public education, that they are not alone, because our organization unites with the magisterial movement of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) in support [of their action] against the so-called education reform that the Mexican state wants to impose,” say members of the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, who today held a roadblock in support of the educators who have been on strike for 50 days.

“We will not allow another massacre like the one in Nochixtlán, Oaxaca, where the government acted with cruelty against parents and advocates of public education, using high-powered weapons,” added the Tzeltal indigenous in a communiqué.

Those originating from the northern-jungle region recalled that among those killed in Nochixtlán are: Andres Aguilar Sanabria, professor of Indigenous Education; Yalid Jimenez Santiago, a 29-year-old native of the Santa Maria Apazco district of Nochixtlán, who was travelling in a van which was crossed with their gun shots, Oscar Nicolas Santiago, aged 22 from the Las Flores Tilantongo community; Anselmo cruz Aquino, aged 33, a trader from Santiago Amatlán, and Jesus Cadena, aged 19, a student at Asuncion Nochixtlan. It is said that more than 94 people were injured by gunshot fire, they continued.

The campesinos, adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, also sent “a combative greeting of solidarity to the compañeros of Xayakalan,” Santa Maria Ostula, in the municipality of Aquila, Michoacan, who just celebrated the seventh anniversary of the recovery of their lands.

Meanwhile the Peoples United in Defence of Electric Power, PUDEE, also Adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, northern-jungle region, in the municipalities of Tila, Sabanilla, Tumbalá and Salto de Agua, agreed to express their unconditional support for the movement of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), this because they are facing “the impasse of the bad government of Enrique Peña Nieto, failing to meet the demands of the teachers.” “It is a barbaric act of the Mexican state not to find a solution, based on dialogue, to the problems which led to the creation of the teachers’ movement,” he added.

To the defenders of human rights

To national and international civil society

Compañeros and compañeras, we want to inform you of the situation we are living through in our territory, as this is a clear example of how we have been affected by similar situations in the past.

On the night of Sunday 12th June, on the section of the highway in the municipality of Tumbalá, in the northern zone of Chiapas, a group of around 10 people assaulted and killed a young campesino, 22 years of age, named Medardo Astudillo Arcos, from the community of Cuctiepa.

The Ch’ol and Tseltal communities of the region, knowing that there will be no justice from the state due to the complicity of the police forces with the bad government and organised crime, decided to organize ourselves autonomously and mobilised around 800 men to track and capture the criminal gang, who, thanks to witnesses who were in the area, were identified as Miguel Pérez Cruz, Antonio Pérez Cruz, and Medardo Pérez Cruz, among others, and there were confessions that the group organizer was Mariano Silvano Gómez.

The operation was carried out by fifteen communities from different municipalities, among them the municipality of Bachajón, adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandόn Jungle; we saw it necessary to unite against organised crime, to prevent the bad government from utilizing these types of situations, with the help of the mass media, and presenting them to civil society as the result of a prevailing insecurity and division among indigenous peoples, advocating police and military intervention in territories that are the focus of government interests.

Furthermore, we denounce that because of these interests, the bad government, in complicity with police forces in the region, has utilized similar conflicts to incriminate members of the indigenous organization of Bachajón, unjustly detaining them, as is the case of Emilio Jiménez Gómez and Esteban Gómez Jiménez.

The organized intervention of the Ch’ol and Tseltal communities to detain the criminals, using our customs and traditional practices and the ways and modes of community policing, is an example of autonomous justice which not only meets the security needs of the region, but also those of tourism, which daily travels these roads heading to destinations like Agua Azul, Palenque or the Yucatan peninsula.

Compañeros and Compañeras we will keep you informed about the situation.

To the people of Mexico and the world

Compañeros and compañeras and everyone involved in the dignified struggle against all the injustice committed by the bad governments, we, the adherents to the Sixth Declaration from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón send you cordial greetings.

Today, with this communiqué, we state that on 18TH April of this year, the residents of the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón elected Manuel Guzmán Álvaro as our official commissioner, and he has given his word to work on behalf of the people and in defence of our land. Manuel Guzmán Álvaro got more votes than the other candidates and for this reason he was named commissioner and assumes the responsibility as an authority of the ejido. As such, he has the power to look for solutions to problems in the ejido, such as how to manage the toll booth which gives access to the Agua Azul waterfalls. But instead, the partisan losers have taken over the toll booth and have impeded the officially elected commissioner’s entry to the ejido. On several occasions groups aligned with the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) and the Verde Ecologistas (Green Ecologist) political parties have blocked Manuel Guzmán Álvaro’s entry to the ejido. These same people are causing bigger conflicts and disturbing the peace in the ejido. It should be known that these conflicts have been going on for a long time and that some of these political leaders are the same ones who later lost in the election for commissioner. They have occupied this land out of revenge for not winning. This land does not belong to them, this land is recovered land, the only thing they are looking to do is cause problems and division within the ejido. They only want to use the land for business matters and the bad government does not intervene because it protects these groups.

These partisan groups maintain blockades on different points of the road running from Ocosingo to Palenque. Their goal is political; they are simulating a protest against the election of Manuel Guzmán Álvaro as commissioner so that the government won’t recognise him as ejido authority. They put up these blockades as a way of asking the government to listen to their demands, but they all belong to the same band of traitors, accomplices of the bad government, and happy with the crumbs they get from the bad government. For this reason we keep ourselves apart from them and their actions. We denounce to the bad government the chaos that they’d like to create through these crimes of blocking the highway. These actions have nothing to do with defending Mother Earth, it is about partisan political interests. They are upset because people from their political groups did not win the election, people chosen by Francisco Guzmán Jiménez also known as “El Goyito” and the out-going official commissioner Alejandro Moreno Gómez.

We also want to tell you that on this day compañeros and members of our organisation are recovering some hectares of land that belong to us in the San Juan region, in the municipality of Chilon, Chiapas.

We demand the immediate liberation of our compañeros who are unjustly held prisoner – Esteban Gómez Jiménez imprisoned in Cintalapa de Figueroa, Chiapas (amate #14), Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, imprisoned in Playas de Catazaja, Chiapas (cereso #17). They have been imprisoned for their commitment to fight for and defend Mother Earth and for the freedom of other women and men political prisoners in Mexico and the world.

From the Northern Zone of the state of Chiapas, the women and men of San Sebastián send combative greetings to all the compañeros and compañeras and to the communities and people in Mexico and the world who are in resistance.

Today we protest with our compañero against the murdering government, because one of our compañeros whose name is: Esteban Gomez Jimenez and his family, at approximately 4:30 pm. was attacked and nearly killed by the paramilitaries Carlos Jimenez Gomez and his sons who work as state police patrol who were apparently patrolling in this area of Xanil all carrying weapons and they were hit with stones, the compañeros are seriously injured, the aim of this protest is to demand:

That the paramilitaries Carlos Jimenez Gomez and his sons are handed over.

We demand justice for the state police.

We demand they leave our territory.

We demand justice and punishment of their accomplices.

Sincerely

Justice, Land and Liberty

Chiapas, Mexico, 8th May. The ejido San Sebastián Bachajón denounces an attack on Esteban Jiménez Gómez, by Mr. Carlos Jimenez Gomez and his sons, who are members of the state preventive police.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the community of Xanil, municipality of Chilón, after the ejidatarios, adherents to the Sixth from Bachajón, held a demonstration.

Until now, the indigenous Tseltales who were attacked report the detention of three policemen as a demand that the person responsible be punished.

The Social Activist Juan Vázquez Guzmán Is Remembered In Latin America And Europe, Three Years After His Assassination.

ceremonie_religieuse-3973d

Chiapas, Mexico. “The family of Juan Vázquez Guzmán and the members of the Sexta Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón thank you for having attended and participated by written letter” said the Tzeltal indigenous, adherents to the Sexta, from the jungle area (zona selva) of Chiapas.

Juan Vázquez Guzmán was assassinated in front of his home on April 24, 2013, “by a group of hitmen from the bad government,” national and international social organizations have denounced since that date. Today he was remembered at this same house in San Sebastián Bachajón, where they received demonstrations of national and international solidarity with the cause of the ejido in resistance which Juan belonged to.

“To keep on, despite all the difficulties, resisting and challenging the powerful from our collective dignity, is the only way we have to keep being who we are: peoples who struggle and work for another world where the Juans do not have to give their life for something as basic as life with dignity,” said the writer Raúl Zibechi from Uruguay in a letter.

“Thanks to you, compañero, the Bachajón struggle became ours. We are not going to give up. It is the fight back we are giving everywhere against criminal governments and against those who own them, who maintain a war of plunder and aggression against the people and use all means at their disposal to oppress and take away what is ours. It is they who have been destroying Mother Earth, causing damage that can no longer be tolerated,” said the researcher and social activist Gustavo Esteva from Oaxaca, Mexico.

“Juan Vázquez Guzmán is a symbol of the defence of the indigenous community, of the defence of life and nature against the large transnational corporations that rule the world, killing nature and humanity, with the only sacred goal they have: ‘to make as much money as possible in the shortest time possible,’ said the social activist Hugo Blanco from Peru.

“We honour his memory and remember his dignified struggle for his people and the land. Juan is a light of hope and dignity accompanying all our struggles, and we know that he continues to live in the hearts of all his compañeras and compañeros in the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón. Those who give their lives for the land do not die, but live on in every act of freedom and resistance,” shared the Dorset Chiapas Solidarity Group from England.

“This week in Canada, we will have an event in commemoration of Juan Vásquez Guzmán where we will share the dignified struggle that you continue to carry out. We also continue to demand the punishment of those responsible for the death of compa Juan, so his death does not go unpunished,” he said Movement for Justice in El Barrio from New York in their letter.

The ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, adherent to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, is located in the northern jungle region of Chiapas, where the tourist attraction the waterfalls of Agua Azul are located, which are part of a comprehensive mega tourist plan that includes projects such as luxury hotels, an airport and golf courses. This is why arbitrary detentions of indigenous have become a resource used frequently by the three levels of government, comments the “Working Group No Estamos Todos” (GTNET), which supports indigenous peoples and campesinos in the region.

RvsR: Three Years Later Juan Vázquez Guzmán Lives!

13087589_993834357371757_6847372678423904103_n

To the compañeras and compañeros of Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle:

To the family of Juan Vázquez Guzmán:

Compañeras and compañeros:

Please receive a fraternal and collective embrace from the Network against Repression and for Solidarity. We want you to know through these words that our compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán is still present in our struggles, in our steps and in our hearts.

The image of Juan represents all that is signified by the rebellion and resistance of the dignified Tzeltal people who decided to organize to defend their land, their territory, their memory, and their history, so that their life will not be a legacy of despair, but instead their heritage continues to be the struggle for freedom and for justice.

Freedom and justice are more than just two simple words, they are values filled with the life in community, the collective work and the strength of the women of San Sebastián Bachajón. With their hands, their toil and their sweat they have been fuelling the possibility and the necessity to continue in the construction of another world.

The pains that you carry and you bring are many. What calls us together today is the life of Juan Vázquez, yesterday it was Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano, tomorrow it will be our political prisoner compañeros, but it will always be the need to continue towards the horizon of the world which we long for and deserve.

Compañeras and compañeros of Bachajón, we do not forget your pains, they are ours too. Nor do we forget your struggle, which for years you have fought in order to make life something where you get up every morning with your only concern that of returning to work, to the milpa, to the stove, to school, to rest, to love, so that resistance and rebellion can continue to flourish in your community, which is the only way to have a dignified life.

We have no doubt that in the north of the state of Chiapas the Tseltal seeds of San Sebastián Bachajón will continue to grow down below, your roots like your hearts are strong, your fruits like your gaze continuing to illuminate the darkness of the storm in which we live. One of those seeds is called Juan Vázquez Guzmán.

These are the seeds and fruits that will enable Emilio Jiménez Gómez, Esteban Gómez Jiménez and Santiago Moreno Pérez to return to their community; where memory is not only a date to commemorate, but also an act of elemental justice.

So freedom and justice will not come from above, from those who have been our tormentors, they will come as a result of our daily struggle in community.

If the capitalist hydra seeks to put an end to life on the planet, this then is our main battle in this war: to continue weaving life, bonds of solidarity, paths of freedom where we, the peoples and organized communities, will decide the course of our lives.

Juan Vázquez Guzmán lives!

Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano lives!

Freedom for political prisoners!

Liberty and Justice for San Sebastián Bachajón!

Against dispossession and repression:

Letter From Gustavo Esteva For Juan Vázquez Guzmán Of Bachajón

Unitierra-Gustavo-interview1

From Oaxaca, Mexico: Letter from the writer and social activist Gustavo Esteva

We do not forget, compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán. We will never forget.

Every year there are more of us who remember. And there are also more of us who find in your story inspiration to live, that is, to struggle. There are increasingly more of us who turn their indignation over your murder into the energy and strength to move forward.

Thanks to you, compañero, the Bachajón struggle became ours. We are not going to give up. It is the fight back we are giving everywhere against criminal governments and against those who own them, who maintain a war of plunder and aggression against the people and use all means at their disposal to oppress and take away what is ours. It is they who have been destroying Mother Earth, causing damage that can no longer be tolerated.

Your example is spreading, compañero. It is true that your death hurts, and that all murders affect us, all aggression, all the dispossessions that are committed daily. But it is also true that they do not intimidate us. They want to control us by fear, they want to paralyze us with anxiety, they want us to sink in our pain. They have produced the opposite. As it is said, they took away so much that they took away the fear. We are still standing. We are getting better at organising. We’re are interweaving to gather all our struggles together, to circulate among us so that we will be united when the time comes to reconquer all that is ours and to build, as you said, that world in which many worlds fit, a world that dawned with our Zapatista compañeros…

Your death and that of many other compañeros and compañeras does not discourage us. Quite the opposite. Our heart is made strong, it takes courage, it is reinforced in your example, in your life. Because ours is and has always been a struggle for life against the campaign of death waged by governments and capital.

We do not forget, compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán. We will never forget.

Gustavo Esteva

From Peru: Message From The Indigenous Social Activist Hugo Blanco For The Commemoration Of Juan Vazquez Guzmán

images

I confirm, through Movement for Justice in El Barrio, my solidarity with the third annual commemoration of the death of compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán, killed on April 24, 2013.

The murder was committed by the Mexican authorities and large corporations who are seeking to seize the communal land for tourist megaprojects.

Juan Vázquez Guzmán is a symbol of the defence of the indigenous community, of the defence of life and nature against the large transnational corporations that rule the world, killing nature and humanity, with the only sacred goal they have: “to make as much money as possible in the shortest time possible.”

Long live the undaunted struggle of the ejido Bachajón in defence of nature and humanity!

After three years we still feel a lot of pain and rage at the savage murder of Juan Vásquez Guzmán which took place on April 24, 2013.

Juan Vásquez Guzmán was and remains an inspiration for the migrant people of El Barrio and every day here we keep his memory alive.

Your struggle is our struggle because the land belongs to those who work it and housing belongs to those who live in it.

You struggle against those who want to take away your lands, while on this side in the north, we struggle against those who want to take away our housing.

Today, three years after the death of compa Juan Vásquez Guzmán, we remember his great legacy of struggle in defence of your land and our people.

Juan Vásquez Guzmán is not dead because he still lives in our hearts.

Juan Vásquez Guzmán, a great fighter who for his love of community and the land belonging to them made it a priority in his daily life to defend the land of his birth, the same land that saw him fall.

Juan Vásquez Guzmán, a man who well knew that the Mother Earth has no price.

Juan Vásquez Guzmán who fought tirelessly until his death.

Dear brother Juan Vásquez Guzmán:

You are still a great example for us to follow here in New York.

You will never be alone.

Nor will your beloved compas in struggle from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón be alone.

There are no barriers or frontiers that separate our support and feelings for you our compa Juan and your parents, siblings, children and compas in struggle.

Compañeros ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón:

We remain in struggle and together we will continue to build a better world where many worlds fit,

This week in Canada, we will have an event in commemoration of Juan Vásquez Guzmán where we will share the dignified struggle that you continue to carry out.

We demand justice! Their murderers cannot go unpunished! No more impunity!

Land, freedom and justice for the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón!

Juan Vásquez Guzmán lives, the Bachajón struggle continues!

Juan Vásquez Guzmán, Presente!

3 Years After His Assassination, Juan Vázquez Guzmán Lives!

13094402_1124139507650150_6376312568916522990_n

To the family of Juan Vázquez Guzmán

To the adherents to the Sixth Declaration from the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón

To members of the community

Compañeras and Compañeros

We send you our warmest greetings from our humble corner of the world.

We would like to send you a few words for the third annual commemoration of the beloved compañero Juan Vázquez Guzmán, who was killed in front of his home on 24th April, 2013, by a group of assassins from the bad government.

Juan Vázquez Guzmán was an authority of the ejido, who fought with all his good heart to defend the lands and territory of San Sebastián Bachajón from the ferocious appetite of the bad government and the transnationals in Mexico and the world who want to dispossess the ejidatarios, take over their ancestral lands, plunder the mother earth, and transform the area of Bachajon in to a luxury tourist megaproject. These agencies ordered his murder because they knew he would never give up the struggle, but we all know that, in Juan’s memory and following the dignified example of love and commitment that he gave us, the struggle continues. It will never end.

It is now three years since Juan Vázquez Guzmán was cruelly assassinated, and the demand for justice continues. The crime still remains unpunished, there have been no investigations and no one has been arrested, but Juan is with us all in our hopes and dreams of a better world.

We honour his memory and remember his dignified struggle for his people and the land. Juan is a light of hope and dignity accompanying all our struggles, and we know that he continues to live in the hearts of all his compañeras and compañeros in the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón. Those who give their lives for the land do not die but live on in every act of freedom and resistance.

We send you an embrace of solidarity

Hasta siempre compañero.

Communiqué From San Sebastián Bachajón For The Liberty Of Their Political Prisoners

Bachaplaza

FROM EJIDO SAN SEBASTIAN BACHAJÓN, ADHERENTS TO THE SIXTH DECLARATION OF THE LACANDON JUNGLE, CHIAPAS, MEXICO. 17 APRIL 2016.

To the Clandestine Indigenous Revolutionary Committee – General Command of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation

To the mass and alternative media

To national and international human rights defenders

To the people of Mexico and the world

Today we denounce the three levels of government, demanding that they release to us the political prisoners of San Sebastián Bachajón, Emilio Jiménez Gómez and Santiago Moreno Pérez, imprisoned in CERSS 17 at Playas de Catazajá. Emilio is falsely accused of assault on an Italian tourist in the community of Xanil and Santiago is unjustly accused of aggravated homicide, following acts which took place in the community of La Pimienta, Chilon municipality where members of the PRI attacked him for being part of the supervisory board of the Sixth Declaration of the Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón. They took out his arrest warrant, and confiscated his plot of land and house site, and displaced his family so they have no place to live. Compa Santiago is becoming more unwell because there is no medicine in prison and he is of an advanced age.

Compañero Esteban Gómez Jiménez continues to be a prisoner in Cintalapa De Figueroa, Chiapas (Amate #14), where he has been freed from the unjust charge of qualified homicide but he is still accused of assault on a truck of French tourists. We demand his freedom and that of the others who are imprisoned unjustly because the living conditions inside the penal centre are getting increasingly worse, violating their basic rights and they are living in permanent risk; they are denied access to health services and food, most prisoners are fed by their relatives.

The personal integrity of the prisoners is no longer guaranteed, on several occasions they have denounced violations of their rights, but the government bodies do nothing about it. Apart from being treated inhumanely, they are not being given access to justice as they should be, because the authorities are becoming more corrupt all the time, from the top to the bottom of the system.

Today, human rights are no longer respected. They government are given more respect than the people in society. For this reason, we make a call for the immediate freedom of all of these compañeros political prisoners because they are innocent. Having a commitment to your people does not mean committing a crime; they are imprisoned for their struggles and treated inhumanely, they demand their rights but the government turns a deaf ear.

Most of the people are unjustly imprisoned, their crimes are speaking out and defending their lands because their people are experiencing repression and harassment from the bad government, so we ask for the immediate liberation of these compañeros prisoners and also for the liberation of other political prisoners in Mexico and the world.

From the northern zone of the state of Chiapas the women and men of San Sebastian send militant greetings to all the compañeros, communities and peoples of Mexico and the world who are resisting.

Never again a Mexico without us

Communiqué From San Sebastián Bachajón In Solidarity With The Pueblo Of San Francisco Xochicuautla

bachajon

FROM EJIDO SAN SEBASTIAN BACHAJÓN, ADHERENTS TO THE SIXTH DECLARATION OF THE LACANDON JUNGLE, CHIAPAS, MEXICO. 16 APRIL 2016.

To the Clandestine Indigenous Revolutionary Committee – General Command of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation

To the mass and alternative media

To the Network for Solidarity and against Repression

To Movement for Justice in El Barrio from New York

To national and international human rights defenders

To the people of Mexico and the world

Today on this day we express our solidarity with the compañeros from san francisco xochicuautla in the situation of risk they are taking and facing these days due to acts of the bad government, and we point directly to the government as responsible for the repression which they have been doing to the people of san francisco xochicuautla; we are already fed up that they do whatever they want with us, the government always wants to get away with it, to use our natural resources for projects for super-highways to make themselves rich, they order the repression of the peoples who defend the mother earth; the government is nothing more than a figure which comes to destroy the natural assets and get the benefit from them, but we will not allow this because the land belongs to those who work and care for it, not to those who destroy it; so let us join forces to end this injustice committed by the same narco government, which has a habit of sending forces to attack and repress the peoples so they will no longer defend their land, but they are wrong because we are many who want to join forces and put an end to the narco-government.

So we want to tell the compañeros from san francisco xochicuautla that they are not alone, because their struggle is our struggle and we lift up our hands to support them, we will continue in the front and in resistance, to defend ourselves and each other from the acts of the bad government, we join their struggle and raise our voice in solidarity so that in this way we can construct a better world where there is peace and justice, not super-highways that benefit only a few or the bad government itself.

So we express all our solidarity and support to the people of san francisco xochicuautla in their struggle, we want to tell you that our organization is with you, your struggle is ours and we will remain on alert for any act by the narco-government.

We also demand the immediate release of our imprisoned compañeros who have spent years in prison without having committed any crimes, but the government takes it as a crime to demand that the territory be respected, to have the commitment to struggle and defend the mother earth which is being plundered by the government for use for business purposes, they make up crimes to imprison people, they send their minions to repress and intimidate people so they will no longer continue fighting and defending the mother earth, we demand the release of our prisoners Esteban Gómez Jiménez imprisoned in Cintalapa de Figueroa, Chiapas (amate # 14), Santiago Moreno Perez and Emilio Gómez Jiménez prisoners in Playas de Catazajá, Chiapas (CERSS # 17) and well as the freedom of other political prisoners in Mexico and the world.

From the northern zone of the state of Chiapas the women and men of San Sebastian send militant greetings to all the compañeros, communities and peoples of Mexico and the world who are resisting.

Road Of Resistance

By Telesur

A fresh, humid breeze was blowing. It was the dawn of the 1st of January of 1994 and fog still covered the mountains of southeast Chiapas, in Mexico. Juan Vázquez Guzmán was only 13 when he saw how thousands of men and women, hooded and armed, emerged from the mist of the Lacandon Jungle. “We declare war our bad government”, they said. No one expected it, although Juan had seen them prepare since he was a baby.

“We are the product of 500 years of battles. We, the deprived, are millions and today we say, enough!”. That is how the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) was born. This guerrilla force from the Mexican state of Chiapas rebelled to reclaim work, land, shelter, food, health, education, independence, freedom, democracy, justice and peace.

As most Tzeltal indigenous young men, Juan Vázquez worked with his father in the cornfields and coffee plantations located at the common lands –  in San Sebastián Bachajón, Chiapas. They had strong hands and empty stomachs. They ate whatever the soil and their sweat gave them. “We depend on our land; an ancient legacy from our ancestors and a legacy for the future generations”, ponders Juan. Since he was an adolescent he has walked on the side of the Zapatistas. He is committed to the fight for their rights as Mexicans and as indigenous people, in a region where institutions have been absent and the citizens forgotten.

The imbalance of land ownership has always been the focus of the Mexican uprisings. In 1910 only 1% of the population owned 97% of the land. In Chiapas a handful of families had taken over the land of the indigenous communities. The indigenous people from Chiapas worked as slaves in those ranches, which were mainly farms raising livestock. After the Revolution, led by Emiliano Zapata, there was an agrarian reform that established the concept of “ejidos”, State land whose ownership and use belongs to the “ejidatarios”. The journalist Luis Hernández Navarro says that “The Mexican Revolution did not reach Chiapas. Some land was distributed, but the land ownership structure remained untouched. This way the power has stayed in the landowners’ hands”.

“Even if they try to turn it into private property, we will not allow it”

“Our Ejido San Sebastián Bachajón was established in 1980 and is one of the largest in the country” assures Juan. He warns “Even if they try to turn it into private property, we will not allow it”.

The Zapatistas made an agrarian reform from below. They seized lands and distributed them. Years of negotiations with the Mexican State came, seeking the recognition of indigenous rights, culture and land. However, the main parties in the country did not comply with the various agreements reached with the movement. Meanwhile, the Zapatistas chose to build their autonomy. They created their own self-government by organizing health, education, justice and production plans in their territory.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In 2006, the EZLN started a new political initiative called “the Other Campaign”. They were trying to join forces with other movements around Mexico and the world. “Zapatismo worked as an umbrella, inspiring and covering different communities”, points out Hernández. That is what happened to the San Sebastián Bachajón ejidatarios, who decided to join the fight led by Juan Vázquez, far away from the weapons but with the same demands. “This is a project where we all fit, and where we want to defend what we are”, he stated. He became the General Secretary of the organization and later on its Human Rights Promoter. The ejidatarios were inspired by the Zapatistas’ words: “Build from below, get away from electoral calendars, fight for your land”. The greatest threat to them remains large economic projects of the Federal Government. In the end, mining, infrastructure and tourism threaten their source of life –  the land.

“What we’re experiencing is a dispossession”, explains Juan Vázquez while looking at a map. He is in one of the organisation’s offices that were built in an area “recovered” by the EZLN in 1994. “Before, the chiefs were the ones who took away our land, now it is the interests and investments of the government that threaten us”. The plans for the building of a super-road threaten the ejido where they live, San Sebastián Bachajón. The road would cross and destroy their crops and communities. “The government wants to attract foreign investors to build hotels”, says Juan. “They are trying to connect the two main tourist cities of San Cristóbal de las Casas and Palenque, as well as exploiting other areas like the waterfalls of Agua Azul.

“Chiapas is poor, poor because of bad governments”

EZLN, june 2014

“They want to dispossess us unfairly from almost 600 hectares of land that belong to us by decree, violating our rights as ejidatarios”. The former common land commissioner, Francisco Guzmán, had assigned those 600 hectares to the Government of Chiapas and to a Commission for the protection of natural areas.

He defended the tourist development of the area: “New businesses will come, and more investment. It benefits me”. The walls of his house evidence his good relations with the regional and national authorities. He poses in photographs next to governors and senior officials. Meanwhile, he reminds us that there needs to be an investment in infrastructure to progress. Francisco Guzmán had given away the common land without the authorisation of the Ejido Assembly, the main decision-making governing body. Faced with this, the ejidatarios, led once again by Juan Vázquez, filed a protection claim in the State court.

“Corruption is found in the three levels of government: local, state and federal. And we only want to protect our natural resources”, reports Juan Vázquez.  The National Fund for Tourism has been trying to develop tourism in the area for more than a decade with a project including luxury hotels, golf courses and shopping areas. It was originally planned during the former State legislature of Juan Sabines and continues as part of the agenda of the current Chiapas governor, Manuel Velasco.

Manuel Velasco won the Chiapas state elections in 2012 after spending millions of dollars on campaign advertising. The poorest state of Mexico was heavily indebted by the end of the former governors’ tenure, yet Manuel Velasco spent 10 million dollars on personal promotion in his first year in office alone. The Mexican media speculates that he is preparing to run for president in the 2018 national elections. He has been dogged by many financial scandals: the Chiapas Organization of Independent Builders has reported cases of privileged treatment he gives to some businesses, most of them recently founded by family members and friends. They assure us that these companies have received multi-millionaire contacts for paving works.

“Chiapas has everything that tourists can look for. Whatever they’re looking for they’ll find here together with the warmth of the Chiapas people”, announced Velasco in a speech promoting private investments. “They want to use us as cheap labour: waiters taking orders from the tourists”, answers Juan Vázquez, “It isn’t true that this project will benefit us, they’re just trying to legitimize their plans”.

The Agua Azul waterfalls are turquoise and transparent. On the horizon you can see the dense, green jungle of this Chiapas paradise. A few tourists walk along the jungle trails, while others enjoy the fresh water. According to the project, miles of accommodation will be built here for elite tourism. “The super-road is for private vehicles, for tourists that will pay tolls”, says Juan, “It doesn’t benefit us because we do not depend on the road, but on the fields”.

CAMINO_IMG_0093-1.jpg smaller

Different worlds breed different views of Chiapas: where some see money and development, others see water and land, as a continuation of their culture, history and existence. In an area rich in natural resources, the focus of the project are big hydroelectric plants, mining concessions and tourist development. Many transnational companies are trying to implement Velasco’s plan through Mexican government institutions while the people of Chiapas are excluded from their natural wealth.  According to official data from 2014, 76.2% of the population of Chiapas is poor, and 31.8% survives in extreme poverty. Malnutrition and death are commonplace, especially amongst indigenous people.

Money is just part of human ambition, but land isn’t.

“Tourism in Chiapas has become a strategy of the rich and the government to break the resistance of the Zapatistas and other communities organised in “the Other Campaign”- the political initiative to defend indigenous rights- to facilitate the dispossession of their land”, explains Hermann.

According to his analysis, tourism is the first action in evicting the indigenous communities from their land, which will end their resistance and pave the way for other transnational companies to enter the area. “Of what use is a road like that to us?” asks Juan, “We do not have money to buy a pair of shoes and less even for a bike or a scooter. Money is just part of human ambition, but land isn’t. Someday I’ll be gone, but the land will remain forever”.

Violent evictions, threats, blows… Since the beginning of the resistance, the battle at Bachajón has had plenty of critical moments and more than 100 members of the movement have been incarcerated. According to Ricardo Lagunes, lawyer for the defence of Ejidatarios’ rights, Juan Vázquez was arrested in 2011 without a warrant, at the request of a former authority in the ejido. After a couple hours he was released without any legal documentation. “The government is authoritarian. There’s been harassment. We’ve been targets of repression because this organisation in defence of natural resources does not suit the government”, explains Juan, “They are trying to provoke a confrontation between indigenous people”.

“Our efforts are for peace, their efforts are for war”

EZLN, May 2014, Chiapas, Mexico

Since the first years of the uprising, armed groups related to political parties and businessmen have arisen. They have maintained a permanent low-intensity conflict and counter-insurgency. Some of the methods that they use to spread terror among organized communities include trespassing, death threats, torture, rape, enforced disappearance and murder. The Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Centre has documented decades of the Chiapas conflict, including the forced displacement of over 12,000 people. According to their reports, “The Mexican government implements counter-insurgent strategies designed to erode autonomous organizations and deepen the expropriation of indigenous land”. The counter-insurgent tactics range from military strategies to economic ones. The first include the creation of paramilitary groups, according to the Plan Campaña Chiapas 1994 of the Ministry of Defence. The latter involve the targeted use of government grants to divide the Zapatista communities.
In 1997 the Acteal Massacre took place, setting a bloody milestone in the long history of paramilitary attacks in Chiapas.  According to the investigator Gilberto López, the counter-insurgency “became a clandestine arm of the army, able to undertake tasks that they cannot perform in the open. Zedillo was the one to push it forward, but the USA were the ones that showed him how to do it”. In 2006 there were 79 military bases in Mexico, with 56 of them located in Zapatista area. In spite of a truce with the EZLN, the pressure around the autonomous territory has intensified.

“The land saw us be born, gave us life and, finally, we rest in it eternally”

EZLN, August 2014

On the night of the 24th of April of 2013, tragedy hit San Sebastián Bachajón. Juan Vázquez had returned home late, after a long day’s work. He made himself a hot cup of coffee in his wooden kitchen, with a dirt floor and a tin roof. He heard a van pass by on the nearby street. Someone knocked on the door. He opened it and was greeted with six high-calibre bullets. Upon hearing the gunshots, his father and his brother ran out to see what was happening. They found Juan’s body in the yard, covered in blood. They could not hear his last words. He was already dead, at 32 years old.

Authorities failed to respond to first-hand testimony warning of the threats directed at Juan.

No one has been arrested since. Authorities failed to respond to first-hand testimony warning of the threats directed at Juan “They said that he had to quit rallying the people or they’d kill him”, says lawyer Ricardo Lagunes. “Francisco Guzmán, the former Bachajón commissioner, told him in front of a large group of people”.

A mound of coffins pile up in Francisco Guzmán’s business. Just like in a noir novel, the former commissioner owns a funeral home called “El Triunfo”, the triumph. When we talked to him, far from regretting Juan Vázquez’s death, he justified it: “They didn’t rule an arrest warrant against him [Juan], and even if they had they wouldn’t have caught him.

He was free, so people say: there is no other solution. That is why there’s been death”. Simulating the action of loading a gun, he adds “There’s no other option but to… shoot at once”. Less than a year later, the organization lost another member. Juan Carlos Gómez, the 22-year-old regional coordinator, was ambushed and killed by more than 20 gunshots. Direct links between a paramilitary group (the OPDDIC) and Mexican authorities and army have been proved. The ejidatarios of Bachajón and the Zapatista people of the area have repeatedly reported harassment from this organization.

CAMINO_realidad-7-6.jpg smaller

RALLY IN MEMORY OF JOSÉ LUIS ”GALEANO“, ZAPATISTA KILLED BY PARAMILITARIES IN LA REALIDAD – MAY 2014

On May of 2014, around 15 people attacked a Zapatista meeting with machetes, sticks and assault weapons in La Realidad. The armed group chased and killed José Luis Solís, a zapatista member. Another 15 Zapatistas were injured. The clinic and the community school were destroyed. “The paramilitaries from La Realidad are paid for, organized, directed and trained by the three levels of the “bad governments” in order to divide and provoke the Zapatista people and the Zapatista autonomous government”, reports the “Junta del Buen Gobierno”, the Zapatista “Good Government Council”, in a statement released a few days later. The attack on La Realidad was perpetrated by a different paramilitary group, Cioac-H, linked to the PRD (Democratic Revolutionary Party). According to an investigation made by the journalist Luis Hernández, “this organization has agreed on all kinds of agreements with the different governments of Chiapas”.

“We are the guardians of this land, of this country, Mexico, of this continent and of the world”

EZLN, August 2014

Despite this war against them, they continue to build an autonomous political proposal. The ejidatarios from San Sebastián Bachajón organized in “the Sexta” continue resisting. “They thought that if they killed Juan they’d finish us. But there’s many of us supporting this fight. We will continue defending our land”, reiterates Domingo Pérez, the current leader. The building of the road has been paralyzed for now, but the interests and the businesses that promote the project do not falter. It is a battle between two ways of living and feeling the land. It is a fight that, as Juan repeated, wants to “build a single where many worlds can fit”.

San Sebastián Bachajón denounces attack against the Ejido Tila

10155330_1689068791308676_860712971951572283_n

Good afternoon, compañeros and compañeras. We ask you please to help spread this news in solidarity with the Ejido Tila, Chiapas.

A combative greeting to all.

this morning, Sunday 20th December, the commander of the municipal police shot and seriously wounded in the stomach a compañero ejidatario from Tila.

as part of the tasks for the day on Saturday, the general assembly for the care of the territory agreed to work to clean the town, so today they gathered in the central park to begin their work when the commander of the municipal police appeared and started to film them, which upset the ejidatarios who tried to stop him, but the commander fled shooting one of the ejidatarios.

the compañero ejidatario is in the hospital and the people are deeply outraged by this action of the bad government.

this commander is one of those who has been organizing the paramilitaries of paz y justicia.

You are asked to remain alert and in solidarity.

within hours the ejido will make a pronouncement about this.

Amidst their paramilitaries and their bullets, our ejido remains firm and clear in its general agreement to build autonomy.

To the people of Mexico and the world

Compañeros and compañeras of good heart, and with honest and combative hearts, we demonstrate from the bottom of our hearts through this communique the commitment we have to defend our territory as an indigenous and united people, and to those people and  communities who resist day by day the repression of the bad government, their cursed war which they wage on the peoples and communities of Mexico and the world who struggle for a better world, a world where many worlds fit, free of the lords of money, the lords of power who destroy everything in order to make more money in the name of progress and development, which the Tzeltal indigenous of Bachajón call death, destruction, dispossession and discrimination.

Our people are aware of your struggle to defend the life and dignity of your communities, peoples and the Mother Earth, we would like to do more for all of you sisters and brothers in the struggle but we are also fighting our own battle for the defence of our land, which the bad government wants to take away with violence and repression, our land which was left to us by our ancestors; at the same time we demand the release of our political prisoners and other prisoners of Mexico and the world who are unjustly imprisoned for the great crime of  defending life and Mother Earth. Although we are not with you compañeros and compañeras, our prayers, thoughts and struggle seek to make a contribution to the defence of life and human rights that the bad government always wants to exterminate because it does not care about the dignity of the people, but only about money to be rich and powerful, as if all that money and power could overcome death. Our thinking is very different from that of the bad government and so they are upset that we have this love and respect for Mother Earth and all that she gives us so we can be able to live.

On this day we remember with dignified rage the struggle and great example of the revolutionary life of our General Emiliano Zapata who gave his life to defend the Mother Earth and to achieve better living conditions for the people of Mexico.

ssb_Mx_Chiapas_Bachajon_w1024_par_ValK (1)We want to tell the bad government that we are not afraid of repression, imprisonment and death, because Mother Earth is everything for our people, because the land belongs to those who work it, not those who destroy it, and we are ready to give our lives to defend it, whatever the cost, just like our compañero in struggle, the human rights defender and former Secretary General of the adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, Juan Vázquez Guzmán gave his life; he was killed on 24th April, 2013 and compañero Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano, regional coordinator of the organization, was killed by more than 20 shots from high calibre firearms on 21st March, 2014 near the Virgen de Dolores community.

We call on the compañeros, compañeras, communities and peoples in resistance to unite their forces and join our struggle so that together we can work to stop so much evil and injustice from the bad government, from a capitalist government, and build a world where there is life, peace and justice. It does not matter if we have different ideas and thoughts or if our ways of doing things are different, we respect difference and consider it a necessary strength to build that world where many worlds fit. We are tired of so much deprivation, forced disappearance, murder, detention and discrimination from the bad government, we raise our voice and hands to demand the immediate release of our political prisoner compañeros  Esteban Gómez Jiménez prisoner in Cintalapa de Figueroa, Chiapas (amate No 14), Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, prisoners in Playas de Catazaja, Chiapas (cereso No 17) who were imprisoned for having the commitment to fight and defend the mother earth and also for the freedom of other political prisoners of Mexico and the World.

From the northern zone of Chiapas the women and men of San Sebastián Bachajón  send combative greetings to all the compañeras, compañeros, communities and peoples of Mexico and the world who are in resistance, we greet the dignified struggle of San Francisco Xochicuautla, Coyotepec, Atenco, Tocuila, Acuexcomac and neighbouring communities in resistance in the State of Mexico, communities in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca struggling against the theft of their land and to defend their autonomy as Binissa peoples and Ikoots peoples, the Chol people of Tila, the people of Banavil, los Llanos, Viejo Velasco, Acteal, the towns and communities of Semilla Digna, the peoples of Guerrero from the Regional Coordination of Community Authorities in Guerrero and their political prisoners who are imprisoned for defending a dignified life, the Yaqui people and all the compañeros and compañeras who, without our knowing their name or their struggle, are resisting and fighting and looking for a better way of living, with justice and peace.

A More Local Prison Is Denied To Political Prisoner From San Sebastian Bachajón

.

images

October 17, 2015

The Chiapan, Estaban Gómez Jiménez, imprisoned since 2013 and currently held in the Social Rehabilitation Center (Cereso) No. 14, El Amate, denounced in a communiqué that the state authorities of Chiapas have denied him a transfer to a prison near San Cristobal de las Casas, where he could be nearer to his family.

“In September I called the technical area of human rights where I was denied a transfer where I could be close to my family in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas; for this reason I ask for my freedom soon, I am asking the relevant authorities immediately, as it is explained to me all the time that we all have the right to defend ourselves and to be close to our visiting relatives,” wrote Gómez Jiménez.

The campesino claims that his arrest was a police set-up, and that they accuse him of an assault and murder he never committed. The prisoners’ support website, http://noestamostodxs.tk/, explains that the case of Esteban Gomez arises from an accusation by the Green Party member, Manuel Jimenez Moreno, from the Pamalha community, for which he was arrested, and they then started to accuse him of other crimes.

The conflict in San Sebastián Bachajón, ejido adherent to the Sexta, has led to the death and arrest of several members of the community, like Juan Vázquez Gúzman, killed on 24th April, 2013 and Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano, coordinator of the adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, who was killed with 20 bullets in 2014. Currently, apart from Esteban Gómez Jiménez, also imprisoned are: Santiago Moreno Pérez and Emilio Jiménez Gómez, prisoners in Cereso 17, Playas de Catazajá.

A Cancun in Chiapas

The Bachajón conflict began in 2007 when they learned of the economic development plans of the state government through the Palenque Integrally Planned Centre (CIPP), a network of megaprojects to attract tourism to the northern part of the state. The idea of the CIPP is to build hotels, a theme park, a golf course, shopping areas, residential lots, to which has been added the Palenque airport, inaugurated in 2014, and the San Cristobal-Palenque highway. All this infrastructure directly affects at least seven municipalities: Catazajá, Chilón, Ocosingo, Salto del Agua, Tumbalá and Palenque.

The Tseltales of San Sebastián Bachajón are located at a crucial point in all this tourist business plan, where part of their lands were given to the government of Chiapas and the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), where they set up a toll booth on the common land on the border with the municipality of Tumbalá.

In this context, explains an article on http://komanilel.org/, one of the strategies used to ensure territorial control has been the co-optation and intimidation of ejido authorities and the prosecution and targeted assassinations of those opposed to being dispossessed.

Hereby, the Sixth of Bachajón thanks organizations and media for joining the struggle and demanding justice for the disappearance of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa; our community wakes up and listens to the historical truth that the government has denied, we continue fighting in memory of the 43 compañeros forcibly disappeared by the narco-government.

We remember that on the 26th and 27th September 2014, the 43 students from the rural normal school “Raúl Isidro Burgos” in Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, were victims of forced disappearance at the hands of the municipal narco-police, with the participation of the state and federal police and the army.

One year since the disappearance and we want to say that the mothers and fathers of the 43 normal school student compañeros are not alone, their pain is our pain and we are with them in their demands for justice.

We declare all our contempt and anger at the narco-government for all the suffering and pain which they have generated for the families of the 43 disappeared compañeros and the whole world. For the first anniversary, united together we will build a new path and we need to continue adding to our struggle to build a new world and spaces of freedom.

Justice for the compañeros and compañeras killed for defending freedom, peace and life. Freedom for the political prisoners of Mexico and the world.

From the northern zone of the state of Chiapas, Mexico we send you a hug and a combative greeting from the men and women of San Sebastián Bachajón.

To the people of Mexico and the world

Today Friday we have come together in a roadblock at these high points of our territory in the ejido San Sebastián Bachajón, and in 15 days’ time it will be a year since the cruelty committed by the Mexican state, killing 3 people, leaving 3 in a state of coma due to the repression they suffered and with another 43 young normal school students disappeared from Ayotzinapa.

These figures are in addition to thousands of others assassinated and disappeared throughout the country, as well as political prisoners incarcerated for their commitment to the defence of our territory and life as indigenous and non-indigenous peoples.

We hold the bad government responsible for the murders of our compañeros  Juan Vázquez Guzmán on 24th April 2013 and Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano on 21st March 2014; at the same time we demand the freedom of our others unjustly imprisoned, Esteban Gómez Jiménez, prisoner in Cintalapa De Figueroa, Chiapas (Amate #14), Santiago Moreno Pérez  and Emilio Jiménez  Gómez, prisoners in Playas De Catazaja, Chiapas (Cereso #17), who were imprisoned for having the commitment to defend our mother earth, we also call for the freedom of other prisoners of Mexico and the world.

We denounce those responsible for the release of the two intellectual authors of the murder of the teacher and compañero Galeano by the self-appointed “judge” Victor Manuel Zepeda López, of the criminal court in Comitán de Domínguez, Chiapas, on 12th August this year, knowing that their accomplices in the CIOAC-Histórica know that they are guilty of organizing the crime.

Justice for the compañeros for defending freedom, peace, life and the mother earth.

We will continue to join the struggle, our struggle for the live appearance of the young people and for justice, so that together with other indigenous peoples, with other organizations of the country we will overcome the capitalist monster for a better world, where there will be peace, democracy, justice and a harmonious relationship with nature and the entire cosmos.
